Minnesota United takes to the pitch for the first time in nearly a month as they host the Seattle Sounders on Saturday evening.
Currently residing in the final playoff spot in the West, Minnesota has just a two-point edge on Austin FC and are looking for just their second win in 11 MLS matches. For the Sounders, they’re only four points clear of their opponents but are playing their first match away from home since July 13.

Minnesota United vs Seattle Sounders prediction
My best bet:
Under 2.5 (+105 at Betano)
My analysis
Minnesota’s been playing better at the defensive end of late, conceding just two total goals in their last three outings. Both of those goals were scored by the Sounders, but both came late in the match with Minnesota down to 10 men.
And at home, they’ve not been terrible. They’ve conceded just 17 goals in 13 home fixtures in league play, far better than their 24 conceded in 12 away matches.
A key reason for that has been their ability to limit shots against. Only six teams are allowing fewer shots against per 90 minutes than Minnesota United—and one of those sides is Seattle.
In fact, only three teams are conceding fewer attempts on target so far in 2024 than the Sounders, who have allowed less than 4.0 SOG/90 minutes. It’s why the Sounders have allowed a league-low 29 goals this year.
They’ve allowed 18 of those on the road this season, but their xGA away from home is just 16.5 so far. Luckily for them, Minnesota has found the back of the net 20 times in 13 home matches, the fifth-fewest tallies in the West. The Sounders also won’t have to face Tani Oluwaseyi, with Minnesota’s leading scorer likely missing out with a hamstring injury.
Minnesota has had a fair amount of rest, with their last match taking place in late July after being eliminated in the Leagues Cup. Seattle made a deep run, and four of their five matches saw at least three goals scored. The only one that didn’t was the opener with Minnesota.
That match was a cagey affair, with only 11 total shots attempted in the first half. That number elevated heavily after the red card, but prior to that it was a stalemate with few scoring chances.
That’s been a pattern when these sides square off, and it’s not an anomaly. Back the Under to hit for the fifth meeting in a row since the start of the 2023 campaign.
Minnesota United vs Seattle Sounders same-game parlay (SGP)
A byproduct of Minnesota limiting shots is how compact they play defensively at times. That’s led to a high number of corners against, with their opponents racking up a league-high 153 corner kicks.
So far this season, only LAFC have attempted more corners than Seattle in league outings. That’s slightly over six per match, and enough to hit their team total Over in this one.
Seattle’s played just two away fixtures since June 19, and one of those was a US Open Cup match in Sacramento. This will be their 16th match in 10 weeks and fatigue is becoming an issue.
Minnesota have had nearly four weeks to rest up and are getting most of their players back to fitness. They’ve won two straight matches at home and have given Seattle a fight over the past year and a half. I like the home side to get a result here.
