Tottenham vs Liverpool Predictions & Picks for Sunday’s EPL Matchup

Liverpool are consistently good, Tottenham are consistently inconsistent. Sam Farley urges you not to overthink this one and take the team with the better defensive abilities.

Sunday gives us a huge Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool meeting in London

These are two of the best attacks in the Premier League and we should see goals but our Tottenham Hotspur vs. Liverpool predictions expect the visitors to come out on top and take the three points back to Merseyside.

Read on for my Premier League picks for Sunday, December 22 with kickoff at 11:30 a.m. ET on the NBC or Peacock Premium.

My analysis

We’ve got a tasty slate of games in the Premier League this Sunday but it’s headlined by the game of the day, Spurs vs Liverpool, which sees two outstanding attacking teams meet.

Over the past three seasons, the teams have met six times, we’ve seen 25 goals, 33 yellow cards, and three red cards, and all six games have seen both teams scoring. So we know we’re getting goals here but sadly Over 2.5 goals and the both teams to score are all priced out of our range. Instead, we’re going to back Liverpool to win, something that’s happened in three of the last four meetings.

So why Liverpool? The Merseyside club currently sit top of the Premier League on 36 points. They’re two points clear of Chelsea and six ahead of Arsenal, although it’s worth noting they’ve played a game less than both teams thanks to their recent game against Everton getting postponed. We’ve also seen Liverpool drop points in their last two games, finishing with draws against Fulham and Newcastle, giving the chasing pack hope. They should get back to winning ways this Sunday though, against a Spurs’ team who are infuriatingly inconsistent.

Spurs come into this after back-to-back wins, putting five past bottom of the table Southampton last weekend and four against Man United in the Carabao Cup on Thursday. However, they’ve failed to win any of their five games before that, dropping points against lesser opposition and putting further pressure on manager Ange Postecoglou.

There’s a gulf in class between these two teams far bigger than the 13 points that separate them in the league. Spurs have seven losses compared to just one for Liverpool and their biggest weakness has allowing sloppy goals to the opposition, especially given that they’re missing some key defenders in Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven.

Liverpool have let in five goals in their past two Premier League games but despite that they still have the best defensive record in the league, with their defensive strength being integral to their position at the summit of the table.

If Arne Slot’s team can limit Spurs to either one or zero goals then they should be able to outscore them, given the depth of high-quality attacking options in their lineup. Mohamed Salah is playing better than anybody else in the Premier League right now and Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez are a capable supporting cast too.

We’ve seen Liverpool keep finding ways to win in the league and we can forgive them their recent stumbles in the Premier League. This is a top quality team against a Spurs team who have struggled to show any consistency.

Tottenham vs Liverpool same-game parlay (SGP)

Liverpool moneyline

Both teams to score — Yes

Mo Salah anytime goal

As well as our best bet above we’re also going to back Both teams to score. In the past week we’ve seen Liverpool allow goals from both Fulham and Southampton and this Spurs team are the second highest scoring team in the Premier League, so they have goals in them. Spurs have scored in seven of eight home games in the league this year and the last six meetings of the teams have seen both teams scoring.

The final leg of this Same-Game Parlay is for Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah to score. The ‘Egyptian King’ has had an incredible season with 13 goals in 15 Premier League games so far and he’s been the standout performer in the first half of the campaign. He’s scored four goals in his past four games and comes into this in red-hot form.
