ANAHEIM, Calif. -- The Minnesota Twins continued to make themselves comfortable in opposing stadiums, beating the Los Angeles Angels 3-2 on Sunday for their 17th road win of the season.
Jason Castro and Miguel Sano hit home runs off Ricky Nolasco (2-6), who is among the major league leaders in dingers allowed this season, and 22-year-old right-hander Jose Berrios (4-1) allowed two runs in six innings for his fourth win.
It was the Angels' eighth loss in their last 12 games, and the 31st time this season they have scored three runs or fewer in a game. Los Angeles is 6-25 in those contests.
While the Twins are enjoying their distinction as road killers, the Angels have the dubious double play of ranking 13th in average, and 14th in on-base and slugging in the American League. They also lead the league in home runs allowed.
If not for Albert Pujols hitting his 600th home run Saturday night, it might have been a totally lost weekend for the Angels.
The Twins grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third on Castro's home run to right field off Nolasco, his fifth of the season and the 17th Nolasco has allowed. It extended Castro's hitting streak to eight games.
The Angels got the run back in the bottom of the third. Eric Young Jr. was hit by Berrios, catcher Juan Graterol singled him to third, and Young scored as Minnesota turned Andrelton Simmons' ground ball into a double play.
Los Angeles made it 2-1 in the second but blew a chance to turn it into a bigger inning. Luis Valbuena doubled to right, C.J. Cron singled and Ben Revere lined a single to left to score Valbuena and take the lead.
Berrios then walked Cliff Pennington to load the bases with no outs, but the rookie struck out Young and induced Graterol to hit into an inning-ending double play.
Nolasco's bugaboo struck again in sixth and knocked him out of the game. He hit Robbie Grossman to start the inning and two batters later, Sano clubbed a home run into the bullpen in left field for a 3-2 lead.
It was Sano's 14th home run, giving him 43 RBIs. Sano, who is second in AL All-Star balloting at third base, is well on his way to surpassing the career-high 25 home runs and 66 RBIs he had last season.
The Angels got a runner on in the eighth. Pujols pinch-hit for Luis Valbuena and bounced into a double play.
