PITTSBURGH -- Josh Harrison ended Rich Hill's no-hit bid with a walk-off home run in the 10th inning, giving the Pittsburgh Pirates a 1-0 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday night at PNC Park.
Harrison lifted a 2-1 pitch over the left field wall for the game-winner. Hill previously allowed only one batter to reach safely, on a ninth-inning error.
Pirates reliever Juan Nicasio (2-5) pitched a perfect 10th for the win.
After Hill (9-5) began with eight perfect innings, Dodgers third baseman Logan Forsythe committed an error with no outs in the ninth, allowing Jordy Mercer to reach first and break up the perfect game.
Hill threw just 99 pitches, 75 of them strikes.
The Pirates (61-66) now could pick up a split of the four-game series with the Dodgers despite losing the first two. Even with the loss, Los Angeles (89-36) has dropped just five of 20 games in August.
Josh Bell nearly broke up the no-hit attempt twice earlier.
In the second inning, he led off by bouncing a ball down the line to Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez. Bell was called safe when he seemingly beat Gonzalez's throw to Hill for a single.
After a challenge, however, the call was reversed.
Then in the eighth inning, Bell sharply struck a ball toward center field, but second baseman Chase Utley robbed him with a diving catch.
Pirates starter Trevor Williams also was impressive. He allowed seven hits and four walks but pitched seven scoreless innings with four strikeouts.
Williams bounced back from arguably his worst start of the season when he gave up eight runs and seven hits in three innings of an 11-10 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Aug. 18.
The Dodgers wound up 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position, stranding 11.
With Hill and Williams each dealing early, the Dodgers finally had a chance to break things open in the fourth when Adrian Gonzalez and Yasiel Puig started the inning with back-to-back singles. Williams retired the next three batters to get out of the inning unscathed, with a substantial assist from Harrison.
The Pirates second baseman robbed Forsythe of an RBI single by diving past the bag, picked the ball and threw to first from his knees to keep it scoreless.
