Philadelphia Phillies vs San Diego Padres Match Player Stats On Aug 20, 2021

Bryce Harper clubbed a two-run homer and the visiting Philadelphia Phillies overcame issuing 10 walks to snap a four-game skid with a 4-3 victory over the reeling San Diego Padres on Friday night.

Harper's blast highlighted a three-run third inning. J.T. Realmuto and Andrew McCutchen each had an RBI double for the Phillies, who won for just the third time in 10 games. Ian Kennedy pitched 1 1/3 innings for his fourth save in as many chances since coming over from Texas last month.

After San Diego star Fernando Tatis Jr. was grazed in the helmet by a Kennedy pitch with the bases loaded in the eighth to make it a one-run game, the right-hander struck out Manny Machado.

Machado, who was ejected for arguing with plate umpire Doug Eddings after the out, knocked a two-run homer earlier in the game for the Padres, who have lost four straight and eight of the past nine.

San Diego managed just four of the game's nine total hits and stranded 12 runners. The teams struck out a combined 24 times.

The Phillies opened the scoring in the third against San Diego starter Blake Snell. Jean Segura drew his second walk and stole his second base of the game, then scored when Realmuto lined a double into the left field corner for Philadelphia's first hit of the night.

Harper followed with his blast into the right field seats for a 3-0 Phillies lead.

Machado got the Padres within a run in the bottom half of the frame with his two-run liner against Philadelphia starter Matt Moore that clanked off the top of the left field wall and over.

Moore lasted 4 1/3 innings, yielding only that homer, two other hits and walking four while striking out four. Snell gave up three runs with two hits and struck out nine while issuing two walks in five innings.

McCutchen gave the Phillies a two-run advantage with his 1,800th career hit, a double that scored Segura in the eighth.
