Todd Frazier delivered an RBI double to cap a three-run second inning Wednesday night and added a solo homer in the seventh as the host New York Mets never trailed in beating the San Francisco Giants, 5-3, at Citi Field.
The Mets have won the middle two games of the four-game series and 12 of their last 19 overall. The Giants have lost six of seven and have lost 12 of 19 since Aug. 1.
Dominic Smith led off the second with a long homer into the second deck in right field against Giants starter Casey Kelly (0-2) before the Mets added a pair of unearned runs with two outs.
Jack Reinheimer singled and went to third after Brandon Crawford allowed Jose Bautista's grounder to skip under his glove for an error. Jeff McNeil followed with an RBI single, and Bautista scored on Frazier's hit.
Bautista homered with two outs in the fourth before Frazier closed out his third multi-RBI game of the month. Frazier had three RBIs on Aug. 11 before collecting a season-high four RBIs on Aug. 15.
McNeil also had two hits for the Mets. He collected hits in eight straight plate appearances dating back to Sunday before grounding out in the fourth.
Noah Syndergaard (9-3) earned the win after giving up two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out six over six innings.
The Giants scored both their runs off Syndergaard in the third, when Austin Slater and Gorkys Hernandez opened the inning with singles, Kelly laid down a sacrifice bunt and a Steven Duggar groundout and Joe Panik single each plated a run.
Slater homered leading off the seventh against Drew Smith, but Smith, Jerry Blevins, Robert Gsellman, Daniel Zamora and Paul Sewald combined to retire the final eight batters they faced, with Sewald earning his first big league save by recording the final two outs.
Panik also had two hits.
Kelly gave up four runs (two earned) on seven hits and no walks while striking out four over six innings.
