Justin Smoak hit a two-run homer and had three RBIs, Teoscar Hernandez hit a three-run homer and the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the visiting Cleveland Indians 6-2 on Sunday afternoon.
Toronto starter Thomas Pannone (2-1) allowed two runs, four hits and three walks in 6 1/3 innings.
Pannone, acquired from Cleveland in a trade last season, had two strikeouts in his third career major league start to help Toronto gain a split in the four-game set and win the season series 4-3.
Francisco Lindor and Brandon Barnes hit solo homers for the Indians.
Cleveland starter Mike Clevinger (11-8) allowed three runs, four hits and two walks while striking out nine in six innings.
Ken Giles entered the game after David Paulino had allowed a two-out walk and a single and to get the final out and earn his 20th save of the season.
Smoak hit his 24th homer of the season in the first inning after Lourdes Gurriel Jr. walked, giving the Blue Jays a 2-0 lead.
Lindor hit his 34th homer of the season with one out in the third.
Smoak restored Toronto's two-run lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the third, scoring Reese McGuire who had walked and stolen second.
Ryan Tepera replaced Pannone after Barnes hit his first homer of the season with one out in the seventh, cutting Toronto's lead to 3-2. Tepera finished the inning with two strikeouts.
After Jose Fernandez allowed Michael Brantley's leadoff single in the eighth, Jake Petricka took over and ended the inning with three strikeouts.
After pitching a perfect bottom of the seventh, Jon Edwards allowed a double to Billy McKinney, who was out at third trying to advance on Gurriel's grounder.
Gurriel was safe at second on third baseman Jose Ramirez's error on a force attempt on Smoak's grounder to first. Hernandez, who entered the game when right fielder Randal Grichuk was injured, hit his 20th homer of the season.
Grichuk walked off the field holding a towel over his left eye, assisted by trainers, in the top of the fourth after his head hit a security guard's chair while he tried to catch a foul ball. The Blue Jays later tweeted that initial concussion tests and a CT scan of his head and face were negative and Grichuk will be re-evaluated on Monday morning.
The outfielder was diagnosed with multiple facial contusions and abrasions and considered day to day. He will remain under the concussion protocol until cleared by MLB.
