Michael Lorenzen allowed one hit in four innings during his first start since 2015, and the Cincinnati Reds defeated the host Milwaukee Brewers 3-1 Tuesday night.
The right-hander, who has made 42 relief appearances this season, allowed one unearned run Tuesday. Lorenzen walked one and struck out three. He was taken out after throwing 52 pitches.
Jose Peraza homered for the Reds (65-87), who lost the series opener 8-0 Monday.
Right-hander Sal Romano (8-11) got the victory with 2 1 /3 scoreless innings of relief. Romano allowed two hits, didn't walk a batter and struck out four.
Cincinnati left-hander Amir Garrett and right-handers David Hernandez and Raisel Iglesias didn't allow a hit over the final 2 2/3 innings. Iglesias walked the leadoff hitter in the ninth but then struck out three in a row for his 28th save of the season.
The Brewers (86-66) were limited to three hits.
The Reds got off to a quick start. Scott Schebler lined the game's first pitch into center field for a single, and Peraza followed with a two-run homer, his 13th of the season, to left-center field.
The Brewers got one run back in the second. Travis Shaw led off the inning and was hit by a pitch. He advanced to second on a groundout and scored on Jonathan Schoop's two-out single to right field.
Cincinnati made it 3-1 in the fourth. Brandon Dixon walked with one out and scored an out later on Schebler's double to left.
Brewers right-hander Chase Anderson (9-8) allowed three runs on six hits in 3 2/3 innings. He walked two and struck out five.
Shaw, Milwaukee's cleanup hitter, was taken out of the game in the fourth inning due to a bruised knee after being struck by a Lorenzen pitch in the second. The Brewers' No. 3 hitter, Lorenzo Cain, left in the fifth for undisclosed reasons after striking out the previous inning.
The Brewers' Christian Yelich went 1-for-4 to break a tie with Cincinnati's Scooter Gennett for the National League batting lead. Yelich is now hitting .317; Gennett went 0-for-4 to drop to .316.
