The Milwaukee Brewers surged ahead with a five-run sixth inning, then squashed a ninth-inning comeback rally by the visiting Toronto Blue Jays to win 5-4 and capture the three-game series.
Toronto's Ernie Clement started the ninth with a leadoff double and Spencer Horwitz brought him home with a RBI single to cut into the deficit.
Down 5-2, Toronto threatened with two runners on base and no outs, forcing the Brewers to turn to closer Trevor Megill.
A Bo Bichette RBI infield single and a sacrifice fly RBI from Alejandro Kirk off Megill moved the score to 5-4. With runners at the corners, Blue Jays pinch-hitter Vladmir Guerrero Jr. flied out to center for the final out, giving Megill his 11th save of the season.
After being held scoreless through the first five innings of the game, Milwaukee scored all five runs with two outs in the bottom of the sixth.
Toronto led, 1-0, when Milwaukee's Blake Perkins scored the game-tying run on a steal of home. An error by Kirk sent Brice Turang, trailing on the double steal to third. William Contreras and Christian Yelich each followed with RBI singles, before Willy Adames finished the scoring surge with a two-run home run to center field. It was Adames' 11th home run of the season.
Milwaukee's Tobias Myers (3-2) turned in a quality start in the win. After giving up a home run in the first inning to Davis Schneider, his eighth of the season, Myers settled down. For the game, he gave up one run on three hits, striking out four batters and walking one.
Toronto starter Chris Bassitt also was tough on the mound. Bassitt threw five shutout innings in the no-decision, giving up five hits and four walks, striking out five batters.
The Brewers didn't break through offensively, until Bassitt was relieved.
Zach Pop (0-1) was saddled with the loss, after entering the game to start the sixth. Pop got the first two batters out, but he surrendered the lead and didn't finish the inning. He was charged with three earned runs on two hits and a walk in 2/3 of an inning.
