Rookie Leo Rivas lined a run-scoring single to center field with one out in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Seattle Mariners rallied for a 6-5 victory against the visiting San Francisco Giants on Friday night in Dan Wilson's managerial debut.
Luke Raley homered and drove in the tying run in the eighth for the Mariners, who won for just the second time in their past 10 games. Wilson, who caught more games than any other player in franchise history, took over after Scott Servais was fired Thursday.
LaMonte Wade Jr., Michael Conforto and Heliot Ramos homered for the Giants.
Mariners reliever Collin Snider (3-2) pitched a scoreless top of the 10th for the victory.
After Josh Rojas struck out in the bottom of the inning, pinch-runner Dylan Moore stole third. Rivas then got the winning hit off Erik Miller (3-5).
The Mariners had just one run on two hits through seven innings and trailed 5-1 before opening the eighth with six consecutive singles off Giants reliever Tyler Rogers to tie the score.
Wade hit a solo homer to center field with one out in the top of the first inning, just clearing the glove of a leaping Julio Rodriguez at the wall.
The Giants extended their lead in the fourth as Ramos reached on an infield single with one out and Conforto, a Seattle native, followed with a two-run shot to center.
Raley greeted reliever Sean Hjelle with a homer to center leading off the fifth inning, trimming the Giants' lead to 3-1.
Wade led off the sixth with a double to right before Ramos hit a two-run blast into the second deck in left.
Giants starter Hayden Birdsong, who was 0-3 with a 10.64 ERA in three previous August starts, allowed just one hit over four scoreless innings. The rookie walked four and fanned five.
Mariners ace Luis Castillo allowed five runs on six hits in six innings, with no walks and a season-high-tying nine strikeouts. He surrendered three homers.
