Yadier Molina had three hits and two RBIs to help the St. Louis Cardinals earn a 4-3 win against the visiting Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday.
Travis Shaw's two solo homers weren't enough for the Brewers.
Paul DeJong led off the eighth inning with a solo home run off Milwaukee reliever Alex Wilson (1-1) to break a 2-2 tie. After a one-out Jose Martinez walk, Molina hit an RBI double to make it 4-2.
Cardinals right-hander Daniel Ponce de Leon was called up from Triple-A Memphis to start in place of Michael Wacha (knee) and went five innings, allowing one run and two hits with seven strikeouts and three walks.
John Gant replaced Ponce de Leon to start the sixth and he gave up a two-out solo homer to Shaw to tie the score at 2-2.
Andrew Miller (1-1) pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning to earn the win.
Jordan Hicks gave up Shaw's second home run of the game in the ninth before completing his sixth save.
DeJong and Martinez had two hits each for the Cardinals, who will try to complete a three-game sweep on Wednesday afternoon.
Brewers starter Zach Davies pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits, striking out four and walking one.
St. Louis put its leadoff batter on base for the second straight inning when Marcell Ozuna singled to start the second inning. Martinez and Molina followed with base hits to score the only run of the game through the first four innings.
Milwaukee's Orlando Arcia led off the fifth with a home run to tie the score at 1-1, but the Cardinals moved back ahead 2-1 in their half of the fifth.
Matt Carpenter walked with two outs, stole second and came home on Paul Goldschmidt's single to center, which also knocked Davies out of the game.
Matt Albers came in and gave up a double to DeJong, but the Cardinals stranded runners on second and third for the second straight inning.
Brewers right fielder Christian Yelich came in 12-for-28 with eight home runs and 19 RBIs in eight games against the Cardinals this season, but St. Louis held him hitless for the second straight game. In four plate appearances, he had two walks and two strikeouts.
