Kevin Kiermaier scored the winning run on a wild pitch with two out in the bottom of the 10th inning Tuesday night as the Tampa Bay Rays overcame an early six-run deficit to defeat the visiting Toronto Blue Jays 7-6.
After Kiermaier led off the 10th with a double against Buddy Boshers (0-2), Matt Duffy walked. The Rays loaded the bases when the Blue Jays failed to get the runner at third base on a sacrifice bunt attempt.
Boshers rebounded to strike out pinch hitter Tommy Pham and Travis d'Arnaud, but a breaking ball eluded catcher Danny Jansen to allow the winning run to score with Austin Meadows at the plate.
Diego Castillo (2-6) pitched a perfect top of the 10th.
Avisail Garcia, Willy Adames and Meadows each hit two-run homers for the Rays, accounting for all the runs in Tampa Bay's six-run inning fourth inning.
Brandon Drury hit a three-run homer for the Blue Jays, and Cavan Biggio hit a solo shot.
Toronto starter Trent Thornton failed to hold a 6-0 lead and allowed the six runs in the fourth. He allowed eight hits in 3 2/3 innings, with one walk and two strikeouts.
Rays opener Andrew Kittredge struck out his first five batters before Randal Grichuk singled, Teoscar Hernandez walked and Drury hit his 13th homer this season.
The Rays threatened in the bottom of the second but left the bases loaded.
Bo Bichette singled against Ryan Yarbrough to start the third, giving him a club-record nine-game hit streak to start his career. He was caught stealing, however, before Biggio hit his 10th homer.
Two errors in the fourth led to two more Toronto runs and a 6-0 lead. Grichuk reached first on second baseman Eric Sogard's throwing error, Drury singled and both runners scored when third baseman Duffy threw wildly to first on Jansen's grounder.
The Rays tied the game with three two-run homers in the bottom of the fourth. Sogard, Duffy and d'Arnaud singled ahead of homers by Garcia (No. 15), Adames (No. 15) and Meadows (No. 19), respectively.
Sam Gaviglio replaced Thornton after the third homer.
Bichette doubled with two out in the seventh for his 10th extra-base hit in his ninth career game, a major league record. Biggio walked and Chaz Roe, who replaced Yarbrough, got Lourdes Gurriel Jr. to fly out to end the inning.
