Seattle @ Los Angeles preview

Angel Stadium of Anaheim

Last Meeting ( Mar 31, 2014 ) Seattle 10, LA Angels 3

Scoring has been a problem for the Seattle Mariners in recent seasons but touching home plate certainly wasn’t an issue on Opening Day. Seattle attempts to defeat the host Los Angeles Angels for the second straight night Tuesday after compiling seven extra-base hits and posting a 10-3 victory Monday. Justin Smoak drilled a three-run homer, Dustin Ackley had a three-run triple and Robinson Cano went 2-for-4 in his highly anticipated Seattle debut.

Mike Trout smacked a two-run homer in his first at-bat of the season and went 2-for-4, but the rest of the Angels combined for just four hits. The Los Angeles bullpen was a weak spot last season and imploded again in the opener as Seattle broke the game open with a six-run ninth. Albert Pujols had a run-scoring double but newcomers David Freese (two strikeouts) and Raul Ibanez (three) combined for eight hitless at-bats.

PITCHING MATCHUP:
Mariners RH Erasmo Ramirez (2013: 5-3, 4.98 ERA) vs. Angels LH C.J. Wilson (17-7, 3.39)

The 23-year-old Ramirez is getting the ball on the second day of the season due to a finger injury that caused 2013 All-Star Hisashi Iwakuma to be placed on the disabled list. He made 13 starts over the second half of last season and impressed this spring with a 1.14 ERA in 23 2/3 innings. Ramirez is 0-2 with a 2.50 ERA in three career starts against the Angels.

Wilson recorded a career-best 17 wins last season and has 30 victories in two seasons with the Angels. He was just 6-4 at home last season despite a sparking 2.55 ERA, while going 11-3 with a 4.13 ERA on the road. Wilson is 14-6 with a 3.54 ERA in his career against Seattle after going 3-1 with a 2.20 ERA in four starts against the Mariners last season.

2. During his tenure with the Yankees, Cano was 11-of-30 against Wilson.

3. Trout is 4-for-10 with a homer against Ramirez, and OF Josh Hamilton is 4-for-9 with a homer.

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
