Colorado @ Miami preview
Marlins Park
Last Meeting ( Aug 25, 2013 ) Colorado 4, Miami 3
After spending last season helping the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles win a Japan Series title, Casey McGehee already has made an impact in his first game back in the major leagues. McGehee looks to build on a four-RBI effort when his Miami Marlins host the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday in the second contest of a four-game set. McGehee, who signed a one-year contract over the winter, had two doubles to lead an offense that collected 14 hits in a rousing 10-1 victory Monday.
McGehee, Garrett Jones and Jarrod Saltalamacchia were brought in to add support in the middle of the lineup for slugger Giancarlo Stanton, who had two hits and two RBIs in the opener. Carlos Gonzalez got off to a strong start for Colorado with a long home run while fellow All-Star Troy Tulowitzki went 0-for-4. The Rockies will depend on free-agent signee Justin Morneau - who went 1-for-4 on Monday - to take some pressure off the duo.
TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, ROOT (Colorado), FSN Florida (Miami)
PITCHING MATCHUP: Rockies LH Brett Anderson (2013: 1-4, 6.04 ERA) vs. Marlins RH Nathan Eovaldi (2013: 4-6, 3.39)
Anderson came over in a trade with Oakland after missing more than half of the 2013 season due to right ankle and foot injuries, which limited him to 44 2/3 innings. The 26-year-old was 4-2 with a 2.57 ERA in six 2012 starts after recovering from Tommy John surgery and was the Athletics’ Opening Day starter last year. Anderson gave up eight earned runs in 22 innings during the spring.
The Marlins are looking for big things from the 24-year-old Eovaldi, who was acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers as part of the 2012 deal involving Hanley Ramirez. The Houston native was 2-1 with a 2.43 ERA in five starts last September and allowed two or fewer earned runs in 10 of his last 12 outings. Eovaldi pitched six scoreless innings against the Rockies last season but did not get a decision.
