New York @ Atlanta preview
Turner Field
Last Meeting ( Apr 8, 2014 ) NY Mets 4, Atlanta 0
Ervin Santana makes his Atlanta Braves debut when they host the New York Mets on Wednesday in the continuation of a three-game series. Santana signed a one-year deal with the Braves on March 12 and was only able to pitch five innings in spring training before getting in one outing for Triple-A Gwinnett, for whom he allowed six runs in 5 1/3 innings. The veteran is coming off a solid season for Kansas City after spending his first eight years with the Los Angeles Angels.
Santana will hope for a little more run support from a Braves lineup that was blanked 4-0 in the series opener Tuesday and has scored two runs or fewer in five of seven games this season. Ruben Tejada had a pair of RBI singles and scored twice to pace the Mets attack in support of Bartolo Colon, who tossed seven scoreless innings. New York, which was the best road team in the National League East last season, won the first of nine games in nine days on the road.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Mets RH Zack Wheeler (0-1, 4.50 ERA) vs. Braves RH Ervin Santana (2013: 9-10, 3.24)
Wheeler opened his second season by posting a quality start against Washington, which tallied three runs and seven hits in six innings against the 23-year-old. He will be returning to the scene of his impressive major league debut last June 18, when he tossed six scoreless innings while striking out seven to defeat the Braves. Wheeler, who grew up just outside Atlanta, went 3-0 with a 2.89 ERA in three starts against the Braves last year.
Included in Santana's bounce-back year with the Royals was a solid outing against the Mets on Aug. 4, when he let up a run in six innings of a 6-2 victory. He would only win one of his next 10 starts to end the season but finished with the lowest ERA of his career. The 31-year-old has never pitched in Atlanta and has only faced New York that time.
