Miller Park

Last Meeting ( Apr 16, 2013 ) San Francisco 8, Milwaukee 10

The San Francisco Giants failed to give manager Bruce Bochy a victory on his 58th birthday Tuesday, but they can wrap up a successful seven-game road trip with Wednesday’s series finale against the Milwaukee Brewers. The Giants are 4-2 on the trip and had reason to be encouraged by first baseman Brandon Belt’s performance in Tuesday’s 10-8 loss. Belt, who had six hits in his first 43 at-bats this season, went 3-for-4 with two RBIs to raise his average to .191.

The Brewers are hoping second baseman Rickie Weeks also turned a corner Tuesday, when he doubled in two runs. Weeks has struggled in the cleanup spot since taking over for Aramis Ramirez (knee), who is unlikely to return before the end of the month. Weeks was 1-for-26 with 14 strikeouts and no RBIs in his last six games before going 1-for-4 on Tuesday. Manager Ron Roenicke indicated Weeks will likely remain in the cleanup spot. “I still think Rick fits the profile well when he’s swinging the bat," Roenicke told reporters.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Giants RH Ryan Vogelsong (1-1, 7.15 ERA) vs. Brewers RH Kyle Lohse (0-1, 2.08)

Vogelsong looks for his first quality start of the year after struggling in his first two outings. “I really haven’t been comfortable on the mound,” Vogelsong told sfgate.com after allowing five runs in six innings against the Chicago Cubs on Thursday. “I just don’t feel like I should, like I did in spring training.” Vogelsong, who is making his first start against the Brewers since July 23, 2011, owns a 2-3 record with a 6.49 ERA in 11 career games (six starts) against Milwaukee.

Lohse has been a welcome addition to the rotation since joining the Brewers as a free agent March 25. He’s turned in two quality starts, including Friday against St. Louis when he allowed two runs over seven innings. Lohse is making his first start against the Giants since pitching for St. Louis in Game 7 of last year’s National League Championship Series, when he gave up five runs over two innings. Hunter Pence is 13-for-44 against Lohse, who is 3-2 with a 3.78 ERA in five career starts against San Francisco.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Giants placed LHP Jeremy Affeldt (strained right oblique) on the 15-day disabled list and recalled RHP Jean Machi from Triple-A Fresno.

2. Brewers C Jonathan Lucroy is 5-for-9 with a homer and three RBIs in his last two games.

3. The Giants have gone 31-14 on the road since last year’s All-Star break.

PREDICTION: Brewers 5, Giants 3

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
