Coors Field

Last Meeting ( Apr 6, 2013 ) San Diego 3, Colorado 6

No one expected the Colorado Rockies to have any trouble scoring runs in 2013 and the team isn't letting anyone down. The Rockies will try for their fifth straight victory and a three-game sweep of San Diego when they host the Padres on Sunday. The Nos. 3-5 hitters in Colorado's lineup - Carlos Gonzalez, Troy Tulowitzki and Michael Cuddyer - are a combined 24-for-60 with six homers, 18 RBIs and 13 runs scored following Saturday's 6-3 victory.

Colorado has also pitched very well and Jon Garland's performance Saturday in his first start since June 1, 2011 was encouraging. The Rockies have benefited, though, from playing the San Diego Padres the past two days. San Diego has scored only 13 runs in its 1-4 start and its mostly punchless offense has produced one home run, although the Padres erupted for five doubles Saturday.

PITCHING MATCHUP:
Padres RH Edinson Volquez (0-1, 18.00 ERA) vs. Rockies RH Jhoulys Chacin (0-0, 1.35)

Volquez had an Opening Day he'd like to forget, allowing six runs and six hits in three innings while walking three and striking out four in San Diego's 11-2 loss at New York on Monday. The 29-year-old Dominican Republic native is 3-3 with a 4.62 ERA in seven starts against Colorado. Volquez is 1-2 with a respectable 4.57 ERA at Coors Field, but was lit up for five runs and nine hits in 4 2/3 innings in his last start there Sept. 1. Carlos Gonzalez is 5-for-12 against Volquez.

Chacin turned his back on a tough spring training with a strong start on Opening Day, allowing one run and three hits in 6 2/3 innings while walking three and striking out six. He left with a 3-1 lead, but the Brewers rallied for a 5-4 victory in 10 innings. The 25-year-old Venezuelan is 2-1 with a 2.86 ERA in seven appearances (four starts) against the Padres and allowed one run and five hits in seven innings to earn the win in his last start against them on Sept. 1.

WALK-OFFS

1. Colorado acquired RHP Aaron Harang from the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday for C Ramon Hernandez. Harang, who was immediately designated for assignment by the Rockies in the hope they will trade him, is 105-104 with a 4.19 ERA in his 11-year career and was 10-10 with a 3.61 ERA with the Dodgers in 2012.

2. Rockies' starters have three wins in the first five games. They didn't win their third until the 12th game in 2012.

3. Colorado will play its Sunday home games at 2:10 p.m. MT this season. "Players knowing they're going to get another hour of sleep? It felt like it would be beneficial," Rockies assistant general manager Bill Geivett said.

PREDICTION: Rockies 6, Padres 5

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
