Toronto @ Baltimore preview
Oriole Park at Camden Yards
Last Meeting ( Apr 23, 2013 ) Toronto 3, Baltimore 4
One-run victories were the norm for the Baltimore Orioles a season ago en route to a surprise playoff appearance. A visit from the Toronto Blue Jays has rekindled some of the Orioles' 2012 magic as they go for a home sweep Wednesday afternoon. Baltimore has dominated Toronto at Camden Yards in recent encounters, winning nine of the last 11 meetings there. That streak includes a pair of one-run victories to open the series, including a 4-3 triumph over R.A. Dickey on Tuesday.
The Toronto lineup was considered by many to be among the most formidable in the American League. But the Blue Jays have struggled to muster much offense through the first 21 games and rank among the league bottom-feeders in overall run differential. They'll look to reverse their fortunes in the series finale as they send hard-throwing right-hander Brandon Morrow to the mound against Baltimore's Josh Stinson, making his second major-league start.
TV: 12:35 p.m. ET, RSN (Toronto), MASN2 (Baltimore)
PITCHING MATCHUP: Blue Jays RH Brandon Morrow (0-2, 5.57 ERA) vs. Orioles RH Josh Stinson (2012: 0-0, 0.96)
Morrow has alternated good and bad starts through his first four turns. The good: a pair of six-inning stints against Cleveland and Kansas City in which he surrendered a total of three runs while striking out 11. The bad: 12 runs allowed over nine innings in losses to Detroit and the New York Yankees. Opposing lineups are hitting .333 against Morrow, and Toronto is 0-4 in his starts. He's 3-3 with a 4.03 ERA in 60 1/3 career innings against Baltimore.
A waiver pickup earlier in the month, Stinson is being given the spot start after faring well in two appearances at Triple-A. The 25-year-old posted a 0.77 ERA with 10 strikeouts in 11 2/3 innings at Norfolk. Stinson is well-traveled after being selected by the New York Mets in the 37th round of the 2006 draft. He made 14 appearances for the Mets in 2011 and has also spent time in the Milwaukee and Oakland organizations.
