Arizona @ New York preview

Yankee Stadium

Last Meeting ( Apr 16, 2013 ) Arizona 2, NY Yankees 4

The New York Yankees were getting by on the contributions of new arrivals like Travis Hafner, Kevin Youkilis and Vernon Wells in the first week. Now that Robinson Cano and the starting pitchers have come around, the Yankees will be looking to clinch a series with the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday. The Diamondbacks suffered their first road loss on Tuesday and have lost their starting second baseman for the next month.

Aaron Hill was placed on the disabled list with a broken hand on Tuesday and Arizona will cover for that loss by giving rookie Didi Gregorius and Martin Prado time at second base. New York has no problems at that position now that Cano has started to get hot. One of the few remaining All-Stars not on the disabled list for the Yankees, Cano got off to a slow start but has gone 13-for-26 with four home runs and 11 RBIs in the last six games. Cano’s three-run blast in the fourth inning on Tuesday erased a two-run deficit and sparked New York’s 4-2 victory.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Diamondbacks LH Wade Miley (2-0, 2.13 ERA) vs. Yankees LH CC Sabathia (2-1, 2.25)

Miley nearly stole the National League Rookie of the Year Award from Bryce Harper last season and has done nothing to suggest a sophomore slump in 2013. The 26-year-old has allowed three runs while striking out 13 in 12 2/3 innings to earn wins over the Pittsburgh Pirates and Milwaukee Brewers. Miley has never faced New York but is 2-1 with a 0.83 ERA in three career interleague starts.

Sabathia struggled in his first start but has been sharp in the last two, allowing one earned run in 15 total innings to pick up back-to-back wins. After struggling with his command a bit in the first two turns, Sabathia did not issue a walk while striking out nine against Baltimore last Friday. The veteran left-hander won his lone career start against Arizona and is 22-8 with a 3.41 ERA in 45 career interleague chances.

WALK-OFFS

1. Yankees LHP Andy Pettitte (back spasms) is on track to start Friday after being pushed back twice.

2. Arizona CF A.J. Pollock has hit safely in five straight games after failing to record a hit in five straight.

3. New York RHP David Robertson has yet to allow a run in four appearances, spanning four innings.

PREDICTION: Yankees 3, Diamondbacks 2

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
