Last Meeting ( Apr 29, 2013 ) San Francisco 6, Arizona 4

The San Francisco Giants snapped their five-game losing streak Monday, but also received a scare when third baseman Pablo Sandoval left the game in the sixth inning with right elbow discomfort. Sandoval had a similar issue during spring training, but was optimistic this latest episode won’t keep him out of the lineup for Tuesday’s meeting with the host Arizona Diamondbacks. “We’re hoping for the best,” manager Bruce Bochy told reporters. “He may need a day. We’ll see.”

Bochy and Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson both received positive results after tinkering with their batting order in Monday’s series opener. Arizona’s Martin Prado, who began the series with one hit in his last 22 at-bats, was moved to the leadoff spot and went 2-for-5 with a homer in San Francisco's 6-4 victory. The Giants’ Brandon Belt was dropped to eighth in the order and responded with his second home run and three RBIs. Belt is showing signs of breaking out of a lengthy slump with nine hits in his last 22 at-bats.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Giants LH Madison Bumgarner (3-0, 1.87 ERA) vs. Diamondbacks RH Trevor Cahill (1-3, 3.00)

Bumgarner turned in his fifth straight effective start to begin the year Wednesday, holding the Diamondbacks to one run on over 7 1/3 innings. The left-hander is 3-3 with a 3.45 ERA in 10 career games (nine starts) against Arizona, including 2-2 with a 3.72 ERA in seven games at Chase Field. Miguel Montero is 3-for-18 and Gerardo Parra is hitless in 10 at-bats against Bumgarner, who hasn't given up more than two runs in any of his five starts this season.

Cahill earned his first win Thursday against the Rockies, allowing one unearned run over five innings. The right-hander is 3-2 with a 3.03 ERA in his last six starts against the Giants. Cahill, who has nine strikeouts and seven walks in his past two games, told reporters he is working through control issues. “I'm searching for command,” Cahill said. "I'm getting behind in the count, and it's like I'm losing a feel for the sinker. It's not going where I want the pitch to go."

WALK-OFFS

1. Giants C Buster Posey is 13-for-32 with three home runs during his current 10-game hitting streak.

2. Nine of Arizona’s last 10 losses have been by one or two runs.

3. San Francisco recalled RHP Sandy Rosario from Triple-A Fresno and placed LHP Jose Mijares on the bereavement list.

PREDICTION: Giants 4, Diamondbacks 1

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
