Arizona @ San Francisco preview
AT&T Park
Last Meeting ( Aug 28, 2018 ) Arizona 0, San Francisco 1
The Arizona Diamondbacks' offense suddenly has evaporated, and so has the team's lead in the National League West. The Diamondbacks wrap up their three-game series against the host San Francisco Giants on Wednesday after suffering back-to-back shutout losses and have fallen into a first-place tie with Colorado.
Arizona has dropped four of its last five contests, failed to score in its last 23 innings and managed just 11 hits while losing the first two games of the set by a cumulative 3-0 score. The Diamondbacks, who fell one-half game behind Milwaukee for the NL's second wild-card spot, have notched two just extra-base hits in the series. The Giants have won four straight contests to get back to the .500 mark and are receiving fine pitching as they have allowed just four runs and 22 hits during the winning streak. Pinch-hitter Gorkys Hernandez singled in the winning run with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning on Tuesday for just his eighth hit in 53 at-bats this month.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Diamondbacks RH Zack Godley (13-7, 4.59 ERA) vs. Giants RH Dereck Rodriguez (6-1, 2.30)

The 28-year-old has fared well in his last seven outings on the road, going 5-0 with a 4.05 ERA. Godley has struggled against the Giants this season, going 1-2 with an 8.79 ERA in three starts, and is 2-3 with an 8.39 ERA in seven career appearances (five starts).
Rodriguez has won five consecutive decisions and is in the mix for National League Rookie of the Year honors despite not reaching the majors until late May. The 26-year-old has allowed just 19 hits in 39 1/3 innings since the All-Star break while going 2-0 with a 1.60 ERA during that span. Rodriguez allowed six hits over 6 1/3 scoreless frames while defeating the Diamondbacks on June 30.
