Seattle @ Baltimore preview

Oriole Park at Camden Yards

Last Meeting ( Sep 21, 2019 ) Seattle 7, Baltimore 6

After having their five-game winning streak halted in the series opener, the Seattle Mariners wasted little time getting back in the win column. Seattle attempts to capture its fourth consecutive series when it visits the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday for the rubber match of their three-game set.

The Mariners dropped a 5-3 decision on Friday and fell behind by three runs early in the middle contest of the series before rallying for a 7-6 victory on pinch-hitter Tim Lopes' RBI single in the 13th inning. Shed Long went 3-for-4 with a solo homer on Saturday, giving him seven multi-hit performances while hitting safely in eight of his last nine games, while J.P. Crawford was 3-for-5 with a blast and four RBIs after going 1-for-29 over his previous nine contests. Austin Hays belted a two-run homer to extend his hitting and RBI streaks to four games, while rookie Richie Martin also drove in two runs as the Orioles fell to 1-4 on their final homestand of the season, which concludes on Sunday.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Mariners LH Marco Gonzales (16-11, 4.14 ERA) vs. Orioles LH John Means (10-11, 3.65)

Gonzales was superb in winning for the fourth time in five decisions on Tuesday, scattering six hits over seven scoreless innings at Pittsburgh. The Colorado native was in full control against the Pirates as he did not issue a walk for the first time since back-to-back outings on July 22 and 27. Gonzales has surrendered nine runs and 17 hits over 7 2/3 frames in two career starts versus Baltimore, both of which were no-decisions.

Means has been Baltimore's top pitcher during his rookie season as he leads the team in wins, ERA, quality starts (10) and WAR (3.9). The 26-year-old ended August with back-to-back victories but has yet to win this month, going 0-2 with a 4.34 ERA in three starts after yielding five runs over 5 2/3 innings in a setback at Detroit on Monday. Means, who never has faced Seattle, has posted a 4.81 ERA on the road this year as opposed to a 2.86 mark at home.

WALK-OFFS

1. Mariners OF Kyle Lewis has hit safely in nine of his first 11 major-league games after going 2-for-5 on Saturday.

2. Baltimore OF Stevie Wilkerson drove in a run on Saturday for his first RBI since Aug. 25.

3. Seattle RHP Austin Adams was helped off the field in the seventh inning on Saturday with what manager Scott Servais said was a hyperextended left knee after allowing one hit and recording one out.

PREDICTION: Mariners 6, Orioles 3

About Units and “ROI”

Units are a standardized measurement used to determine the size of each of your bets relative to your bankroll. For example, if you have a bankroll of $200 and you bet 5% of your bankroll each time, each of your units is worth $10. A bettor with a $2000 bankroll who bets 5% per bet has units of $100. We use the number of units to standardize the amount the trend is up or down across different bet amounts.

ROI is the best indicator of success and measures how much you bet vs. how much you profited. Any positive ROI is good in sports betting with great long-term bettors sitting in the 5-7% range.
