NBA odds explained
The point spread, moneyline, and Over/Under are the three most common ways to bet on the NBA.
Spread
Spread betting is the most popular way to wager on basketball. The point spread is an equalizer, using the projected final margin between two teams to set a handicap. The point spread favorite is indicated by the minus (-) before the spread and must win by more than that amount of points to win the spread bet. The underdog has a plus (+) before the spread and must either win outright or lose by fewer points than given in order to win the bet. Learn more with our point spread guide.
Check out today’s NBA spreads and compare them across the top sportsbooks in the industry by selecting the spread button above the odds.
Moneyline
The moneyline is the most straightforward basketball bet you can make: Simply pick which team will win. The moneyline favorite will have a minus (-) before the odds while the underdog will be indicated by a plus (+). Learn more with our moneyline guide and calculate how much money you can win with your NBA moneyline bets using our moneyline calculator.

Over/Unders
The Over/Under — also known as the total — is a great betting option when you don’t have an opinion on which team will win. Oddsmakers set a projected total number of points scored by both sides and you can wager on whether the final score will go Over or Under that total. Learn more with our Over/Under guide.

Futures
NBA futures are odds on long-term markets, such as odds to win the NBA Championship or which teams will win the Eastern and Western Conference. Futures odds often open before the start of the schedule and bets are accepted until the end of the season, constantly changing during that span based on results, injuries, and betting action. Oddsmakers at sportsbooks will set odds for NBA games based on each team’s implied probability of winning the game. Those odds then become a liquid market and move based on betting action until the game starts.
Odds for daily NBA games will generally open the night before. The lines then move based on betting action and game-related news until tip-off.
