Ja Morant displayed why he was the No. 2 overall pick in the NBA draft in his third career game and he looks to put together another strong effort when the Memphis Grizzlies visit the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday. The rookie point guard exploded for 30 points and nine assists in Sunday's 134-133 overtime win over the Brooklyn Nets after struggling in his first two outings.

Morant made 13-of-22 shots in Sunday's win after being 9-of-21 over his first two games, when he averaged 12 points and 4.5 assists. "We've said to him daily that he's our engine. We go as he goes," Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins told reporters afterward. "I think he's starting to see how defenses are going to guard him. He's got to be full throttle early on. ... That was a great Ja Morant performance." The Lakers have won two straight games since a season-opening loss to the Los Angeles Clippers and post player Anthony Davis registered 29 points and 14 rebounds in Sunday's easy 120-101 home victory over the Charlotte Hornets. Forward LeBron James added 20 points and 12 assists for his second straight double-digit effort on the passing side of the ledger.

ABOUT THE GRIZZLIES (1-2): Veteran forward Jae Crowder drained a 3-pointer as time expired in overtime to account for the victory over Brooklyn and Jenkins was pleased with his club's performance. "Obviously, to get our first win of the season, it took a complete team effort," Jenkins said afterward. "It was all five guys at any given time on the floor committed to playing together unselfishly." Forward Dillon Brooks was 9-of-15 shooting while recording a season-high 21 points and center Jonas Valanciunas had 16 points and 11 rebounds for his second straight double-double.

ABOUT THE LAKERS (2-1): Davis scored 25 of his points in the first half on Sunday and his 10-of-19 overall shooting was an improvement over the 15-of-38 mark in the club's first two games. "I shot the ball poorly the first two games, and I was just trying to get into a rhythm," Davis told reporters afterward. "When I get easy looks, it kind of gets me going." Backup center Dwight Howard provided a stellar lift off the bench against Charlotte while scoring 16 points on 8-of-8 shooting and contributing 10 rebounds along with four blocked shots.
