Los Angeles @ San Antonio preview

Frost Bank Center

Last Meeting ( Dec 7, 2018 ) L.A. Lakers 120, San Antonio 133

The Los Angeles Lakers are starting to gel and picked up their first road win with a 119-110 overtime triumph at Dallas on Friday. LeBron James, Anthony Davis and company will try to make it five consecutive victories when they continue a three-game trip by visiting the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday.

James let Davis do the heavy lifting in wins over Charlotte and Memphis but took over against Dallas, collecting 39 points, 16 assists and 12 rebounds for his first triple-double of the campaign. James' most important stat came in the final seconds of regulation, when he drew two defenders and found guard Danny Green open in the corner for a 3-pointer that forced overtime. The Spurs don't have quite the same amount of star power as Los Angeles but also won four of their first five games and earned their first road victory on Friday with a 127-110 triumph at the Golden State Warriors. San Antonio has yet to fall at home and will play four of its next five in front of its own fans.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, Spectrum SportsNet (Los Angeles), FS Southwest (San Antonio)

ABOUT THE LAKERS (4-1): Los Angeles trailed by 10 points at the half on Friday and was down nine heading into the fourth quarter before finding the flow at both ends of the floor. "Offensively we just couldn't make a shot to start the game," James told reporters. "... But the most important thing, we continued to defend. That's what's always going to keep us in the game." James added four steals to his impressive stat line in the win while Davis followed up a 40-point, 20-rebound effort in a win over Memphis on Tuesday with 31 points, eight rebounds, two blocks and two steals at the Mavericks.

ABOUT THE SPURS (4-1): San Antonio veteran guard Patty Mills got off to a slow start while averaging eight points in the first four games but broke out with 31 points on 10-of-16 shooting in 22 minutes off the bench on Friday. Swingman DeMar DeRozan matched a season low with 13 points but handed out 11 assists in the easy victory and is stepping up as a distributor with point guard Dejounte Murray easing back into a full schedule following ACL surgery. Murray, who sat out Friday on the second night of a back-to-back, is expected to be in the lineup on Sunday.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Lakers PF Kyle Kuzma (ankle) made his season debut on Friday and scored nine points in 19 minutes off the bench.

2. Spurs SF Rudy Gay scored a season-high 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting Friday.

3. San Antonio took three of the four meetings last season - all played before James suffered a groin injury on Dec. 25 that derailed Los Angeles' season.

PREDICTION: Lakers 115, Spurs 111
