Portland @ Golden State preview

Chase Center

Last Meeting ( May 26, 2019 ) Portland 0, Golden State 0

The Golden State Warriors have gone from the best team in the NBA to one of the worst in one offseason and will once again try for their first home win when they host the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday. The Warriors moved across the bay from Oakland to San Francisco in the offseason and are 0-4 in their new home, the Chase Center.

Golden State lost veterans Kevin Durant, Shaun Livingston, DeMarcus Cousins and Andre Iguodala in the offseason and All-Star shooting guard Klay Thompson is expected to miss most or all of the season recovering from knee surgery, but the recent losses of two-time MVP Stephen Curry (broken hand) and All-Star Draymond Green (finger) robbed the roster of the last major pieces of its championship past. "I don't think there's an emotional toll, there's more of a reaction," Warriors coach Steve Kerr told reporters of the recent injuries. "It's sort of 'what the hell's going on' type thing. But you just have to deal with it and move forward, and it's a great opportunity for the young guys, and they know it so they should take advantage of that." The Trail Blazers, who lost to Golden State in the Western Conference finals last spring, are winless at home as well after squandering a 21-point lead and falling on a last-second 3-pointer against the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday. "We played such a great game and they just chipped away and got back into it," Portland star Damian Lillard told reporters. "We let one slip. I think the way we lost sucks. Any time somebody hits a last second shot, put you up against the clock, it's a bad feeling especially knowing you had such a huge lead and played such a great game."

TV: 10:30 p.m. ET, NBA TV, NBCS Northwest (Portland), NBCS Bay Area (Golden State)

ABOUT THE TRAIL BLAZERS (3-3): Portland is dealing with its own spate of injuries and is especially thin in the frontcourt with Jusuf Nurkic (leg), Pau Gasol (foot) and Zach Collins (shoulder) out and Hassan Whiteside (knee) day-to-day. "We'll have to make do with the guys that we have," Trail Blazers coach Terry Stotts told reporters. "I'm disappointed for Zach (Collins). It's tough for a young player to have to have surgery and miss a significant part of the season. It's in his best interest." Lillard is doing his best to carry the load and finished with 33 points on 11-of-16 shooting, including 8-of-11 from 3-point range, and nine assists in Saturday's setback.

ABOUT THE WARRIORS (1-5): Golden State was also missing guard D'Angelo Russell (ankle) on Saturday and expects to be without Green for the next few games, leaving young players to step up. Rookie forward Eric Paschall scored a season-high 25 points on 10-of-18 shooting and rookie point guard Ky Bowman added 16 points, seven rebounds and four assists in Saturday's 93-87 loss to the Charlotte Hornets. "It was a really positive step, but you've got to get some wins, too," Kerr told reporters. "I wish I could have done a better job down the stretch to help them out, but that's the way it goes."

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Trail Blazers SF Rodney Hood (knee) left Saturday's game and is day-to-day.

2. Warriors C Kevon Looney (neuropathy) and SG Jacob Evans (groin) are also on the team's lengthy injury report.

3. Golden State swept the Western Conference finals last season and split the four-game regular-season series with Portland.

PREDICTION: Trail Blazers 121, Warriors 102
