Last Meeting ( Apr 10, 2019 ) Minnesota 95, Denver 99

It looked like the Denver Nuggets would not see a third straight win before a furious fourth-quarter comeback against the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday. The Nuggets will try to put the game away a little earlier and push the winning streak to four in a row when they visit the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday.

Denver trailed by 21 points early in the fourth before outscoring Philadelphia 35-13 in the period and earning a 100-97 victory - the third straight game in which it held an opponent under 100 points. "I think this speaks volumes," Nuggets coach Michael Malone told reporters. "We had that never quit mentality. One basket, one stop at a time. Down the stretch, our group made big play after big play. I loved the fight of our group." The Timberwolves showed some fight on Friday as well, locking down on the defensive end late in the fourth quarter and earning a 125-119 overtime victory over the Golden State Warriors to snap a two-game slide. The victory marked the first of a stretch in which Minnesota will play seven of nine at home, where it owns a 2-1 record.

ABOUT THE NUGGETS (6-2): Denver has been waiting for star center Nikola Jokic to turn up the aggressiveness on offense and was rewarded on Friday, when he scored a season-high 26 points on a season-high 22 shots and capped the comeback with a go-ahead bucket with 1.2 seconds remaining. "Tonight, Nikola was phenomenal on both ends of the floor," Malone told reporters. "He was aggressive throughout the game leading up to that game-winner." Point guard Jamal Murray added his first double-double of the campaign with 22 points and 11 assists on Friday and scored at least 20 points in each of the last three contests.

ABOUT THE TIMBERWOLVES (5-3): Minnesota got a star turn from center Karl-Anthony Towns over the first week of the season and now fellow former No. 1 pick Andrew Wiggins is taking his turn. Wiggins went off for a season-high 40 points on 17-of-33 shooting on Friday, including the tying basket in regulation and a clinching 3-pointer in overtime, and added seven assists and three blocks. "We've seen (Wiggins) building to what we imagine he could be and what we believe he could be," forward Robert Covington told reporters. "He just has so many good positive people around him that are pushing him, that believe in him, and that's contagious."

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Timberwolves PG Shabazz Napier (hamstring), PF Jordan Bell (shoulder) and PG Jeff Teague (illness) each sat out the last two games and are day-to-day.

2. Nuggets SF Will Barton totaled 35 points on 13-of-22 shooting in two games since returning from a toe injury.

3. Jokic averaged 16.8 points, 12.5 rebounds and 7.3 assists as Denver swept the four-game series from Minnesota last season.

PREDICTION: Nuggets 106, Timberwolves 98
