Cleveland @ New York preview

Madison Square Garden

Last Meeting ( Feb 28, 2019 ) Cleveland 125, New York 118

The New York Knicks will try to build on their first road win of the season when they host the Cleveland Cavaliers, who have won 10 in a row at Madison Square Garden, on Sunday. After opening 0-5 on the road, the Knicks started fast and held on to win 106-102 at Dallas on Friday night.

Marcus Morris scored 29 points and New York made 14-of-28 3-pointers to snap its four-game slide overall in a rematch with former Knicks star Kristaps Porzingis. "I could see how guys would approach it a little extra," Morris told reporters of the Knicks thriving against Porzingis. "But for me, I've been traded a few times, left some teams with bad tastes in their mouths, so I understand how it goes. It's not about him. It's about us." The Cavaliers also picked up their first road victory with a 113-100 triumph at Washington on Friday. Tristan Thompson and Kevin Love both had double-doubles for Cleveland and they've already combined for 13.

ABOUT THE CAVALIERS (3-5): Cleveland lost three in a row before it forced 18 turnovers and got to the line 23 more times than Washington on Friday. "It's always great to get a road win," coach John Beilein said. "I don't care what type of team you have. They guys needed it. When you win somewhere else, it's always special." Thompson had 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting and he's averaging 17.4 points, which would be a career high by nearly six points over his previous best.

ABOUT THE KNICKS (2-7):
Point guard Frank Ntilikina had his best game of the season by making 4-of-5 3-pointers en route to 14 points and chipping in four steals and three blocks. Rookie guard RJ Barrett had a very different night by shooting 1-for-9, and the third overall pick is at 31 percent from the floor in four games this month. "I wanted my kid to get over that hump tonight so I left him in there to see if he could overcome it," coach David Fizdale told reporters of Barrett. "He failed this time, but he'll get back on the horse and he'll make his next ones."
