Last Meeting ( Oct 14, 2019 ) Charlotte 120, Memphis 99

The Memphis Grizzlies are finding ways to show their fans a glimpse of the teams' potential while getting off to a slow start and can pick up their first back-to-back wins of the season when they visit the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday. The Grizzlies earned their first road win of 2019-20 with a 113-109 triumph at San Antonio on Monday behind a strong effort from the frontcourt.

Jaren Jackson Jr. is one of the building blocks for Memphis and he showed off his all-around game with 24 points on 10-of-17 shooting, including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc, six rebounds and five assists on Monday. "He was impacting the game on both ends of the floor," Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins told reporters of Jackson. "Obviously, not being in foul trouble helped him produce on the offensive end, just being on the floor. Defensively, just playing solid defense." The Hornets are losers of three in a row and have some holes to fill on the defensive end after allowing the Philadelphia 76ers to shoot 54.8 percent from the floor in a 114-106 road setback on Sunday. "We didn't carry that momentum from the first half to the second half," Charlotte coach James Borrego told reporters after the loss. "I think we grew a lot tonight and I think we competed overall. I saw some good things."

TV: 7 p.m. ET, FS Southeast (Memphis, Charlotte)

ABOUT THE GRIZZLIES (3-7): Memphis totaled 32 assists on 44 made field goals Monday and shot 50.6 percent from the floor, with Jackson, Jonas Valanciunas (9-of-12) and Brandon Clarke (6-of-7) leading the way from the frontcourt. "The more we play with movement, not just even in the full court, but in the half court and sharing the ball and getting those 32 assists again, that really helps our offense," Jenkins told reporters. "We just get great looks. I think our guys are trying to get in a great direction to start really embracing the style of play we play with." Star rookie Ja Morant was not quite as sharp with his shot and managed nine points on 2-of-12 shooting, making him 5-of-25 from the floor over his last two games.

ABOUT THE HORNETS (4-6): Charlotte is developing a diverse attack offensively based on balance an added another high scorer - the team's sixth in 10 games - when center Cody Zeller took his turn with 24 points on 10-of-13 shooting Sunday. The team's leading scorer is point guard Devonte' Graham (17.9 points, 7.6 assists), who comes off the bench to lead a strong reserve crew that also includes guard Malik Monk (15 points, eight rebounds on Sunday). "They've been really great this year, they really have," Borrego told reporters of his second unit. They've gotten us back into games and they've won us games. ... But you never want to be a team that always is in the hole. We've got to figure that out."

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Valanciunas totaled 18 points and 12 rebounds on Monday for his sixth double-double.

2. Hornets G Dwayne Bacon went 0-of-6 from the floor on Sunday - the fourth time in the last seven games that he made one or no field goals.

3. Charlotte is enjoying a five-game winning streak in the series.

PREDICTION: Hornets 108, Grizzlies 105
