Last Meeting ( Oct 16, 2019 ) Detroit 116, Charlotte 110

A pair of teams suffering through losing streaks will try to end their respective slides when the Detroit Pistons visit the Charlotte Hornets on Friday. The Pistons are 0-2 since star forward Blake Griffin debuted Monday against Minnesota and they've dropped three in a row overall.

Griffin was rested Tuesday in Miami and a shorthanded Detroit squad that had difficulty getting to town because of a record snow back home rallied late before falling to the Heat 117-108. "Whether we got in at 11 o'clock last night or 5 o'clock this morning, we've got to have that type of toughness and that type of resilience versus adversity that we haven't exhibited so far this year," Pistons coach Dwane Casey told reporters. Detroit has plenty of time to get to Charlotte, which is on a four-game skid, losing the last three by a total of 15 points. A layup in the final second by Memphis Grizzlies rookie Ja Morant dumped the Hornets 119-117 on Wednesday, giving Charlotte three straight losses at home.

ABOUT THE PISTONS (4-8): With Griffin on the sidelines at Miami, Detroit was outrebounded 42-32, with center Andre Drummond recording a season-low nine boards to see his string of double-doubles end at 11. Luke Kennard continued to pick up some slack on the offensive end with his sixth game of at least 20 points -- tied with his total for all of last season. Fellow guard Derrick Rose was rested Tuesday after returning from a hamstring injury the night before, but should be ready to go in Charlotte.

ABOUT THE HORNETS (4-7): Guard Terry Rozier broke out for a career high-tying 33 points on 13-of-21 shooting in the loss to the Grizzlies, but he was not satisfied with his game. "We need to really worry about my turnovers and get better on the defensive end and control that," Rozier told reporters after turning it over five times. "I'll be fine, me and coach communicate just about every day so we are going to get on the same page and we're growing together and that's what it's about." Malik Monk had season highs with 20 points and five assists and tied a career high with eight rebounds in the setback.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. The Hornets have trailed by double digits in every game this season.

2. Pistons G Bruce Brown was 1-for-5 from the floor at Miami but recorded a career-high 11 assists.

3. Charlotte won each of the last six meetings.

PREDICTION: Pistons 111, Hornets 108
