Golden State @ New Orleans preview

Smoothie King Center

Last Meeting ( Oct 28, 2019 ) Golden State 134, New Orleans 123

The Golden State Warriors' only road win of the season came at New Orleans late last month, and they'll try for another victory at the Pelicans' home when the teams meet Sunday night in the Big Easy. The Warriors are 1-9 since a 134-123 win at New Orleans on Oct. 28 and their current losing streak sits at six after Friday's 105-100 loss at home to the Boston Celtics.

Alec Burks scored 20 points off the bench for Golden State, which had a five-point lead with two-plus minutes to go before fading. "We're trying to get better and that starts with just competing," Warriors center Willie Cauley-Stein told reporters. "We're taking little steps. Today we had a chance to win it." The Pelicans have been swapping wins and losses of late and are coming off a 109-94 setback at Miami on Saturday night. The league's second-highest scoring team entering the night at 118.4 points per game, but an extremely shorthanded New Orleans squad, managed only six foul shots while falling short of 100 points for the first time this season.

ABOUT THE WARRIORS (2-11): Injuries have been a significant factor all season for Golden State and it was dealt another major blow when guard D'Angelo Russell suffered a sprained thumb Friday. The team's top scorer at 24.3 points per game, Russell will be re-evaluated in two weeks, which gives Burks and rookie Ky Bowman a chance to see more playing time. Burks is averaging 18 points over his last six games and Bowman averaged 14.3 in three starts earlier this month.

ABOUT THE PELICANS (3-9): Leading scorer Brandon Ingram (knee) missed his third game in a row Saturday, while guards Josh Hart (knee, ankle), Lonzo Ball (adductor) and J.J. Redick (toe) also sat Saturday night. Center Jahlil Okafor missed his second straight game with an ankle sprain and two fill-in starters - Frank Jackson and Derrick Favors - departed the contest with neck and back problems, respectively. Rookie guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker made the most of the increased opportunity by recording a personal-best 27 points on 10-of-18 shooting two nights after missing all six of his shots in a win over the Los Angeles Clippers.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Warriors PF Draymond Green had 16 points, 17 rebounds and 10 assists in the first meeting.

2. Pelicans SG Jrue Holiday is 9-for-11 from 3-point range over his last two games after going 0-for-12 in his previous two contests.

3. Cauley-Stein is 19-for-29 from the floor over a four-game span.

PREDICTION: Warriors 114, Pelicans 112
