A pair of teams looking to bounce back from their most lopsided losses of the season meet Wednesday in Brooklyn as the Nets host the Charlotte Hornets. Playing without star point guard Kyrie Irving for the second straight game, the Nets dropped a 115-86 decision to the Indiana Pacers on Monday to open a three-game homestand.

Brooklyn shot a season-low 35.7 percent two nights after it scored 117 points in a victory at Chicago. "Below-average teams are inconsistent and that's what we are right now," Nets coach Kenny Atkinson told reporters after his team fell for the fourth time in its last five games. The Hornets had won two in a row -- both on late 3-pointers -- before they were trounced 132-96 at Toronto on Monday. The Raptors won the second half by a whopping 32 points to drop Charlotte to 3-4 on the road.

ABOUT THE HORNETS (6-8): Toronto recorded a franchise-record 40 assists in its rout of Charlotte, which also hurt itself with 19 turnovers. "We couldn't find any traction offensively and then we turned it over," coach James Borrego told the media of his team, which also was outrebounded 53-37. Marvin Williams led five players in double figures with 14 points in the loss and he is 8-for-16 from 3-point range over his last three games.

ABOUT THE NETS (5-8): Spencer Dinwiddie is doing his best to fill in for Irving (shoulder) and had 28 points against the Pacers, but there was little support elsewhere and not much energy in the 29-point home loss. "There's a lot of it that's out of our your control when you're playing, but the things that are in your control are competing every possession, playing hard every possession, having that sense of energy," guard Joe Harris told reporters. "The ownership, the pride, a lot of that stuff isn't there for us right now." Harris is 6-for-26 from 3-point range over his last five games after hitting 26-of-48 through his first eight contests.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Hornets SG Malik Monk is 2-for-11 from long range since hitting a game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer against Detroit on Friday.

2. Nets C Jarrett Allen notched his fourth double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds against Indiana.

3. The teams split four meetings last season.

PREDICTION: Nets 111, Hornets 106
