San Antonio @ New York preview

Madison Square Garden

Last Meeting ( Oct 23, 2019 ) New York 111, San Antonio 120

The longest losing streak in the Gregg Popovich era in San Antonio stands at eight losses in a row, a dismal slide the Spurs will attempt to end Saturday at the New York Knicks. The Spurs shot 50.6 percent and turned it over just 11 times but still fell 115-104 at Philadelphia on Friday while losing their sixth in a row on the road.

"They're wonderful guys and we're trying to put it together defensively," Popovich told reporters of the process in trying to end the streak. "You have a challenge like that it can be as satisfying as anything else but you'd rather win." The Knicks have won two of their last three at home but are coming off a 109-104 loss at Philadelphia on Wednesday in which they led by as many as 17 points. Marcus Morris stuffed the stat sheet with 22 points, 13 rebounds, six assists and two steals to lead the way for New York, which made 13-of-25 3-pointers in the loss. Morris recorded 26 points in a matchup with the Spurs in the season opener for both teams, but San Antonio finished strong in a 120-111 win.

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, FS Southwest (San Antonio), MSG (New York)

ABOUT THE SPURS (5-11): DeMar DeRozan is doing everything he can to end the slide for San Antonio, averaging 32 points over the last three games while making 35-of-56 shots. Rudy Gay added 22 points in 27 minutes off the bench and hit all three of his 3-point attempts Friday. LaMarcus Aldridge chipped in 17 points for the Spurs, who were outrebounded 51-32, with DeRozan leading the way with seven boards.

ABOUT THE KNICKS (4-11): Frank Ntilikina scored a season-high 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting in the loss to the 76ers. Rookie RJ Barrett struggled to eight points on 4-of-12 from the floor - his fourth single-digit effort in the last seven games - and he is shooting 36.8 percent in November. "I got my shots," Barrett told reporters. "You're not going to make them all. But I got them and I was happy with that."
