The Celtics are the definition of “live by the three, die by the three”. And Boston died by it in Game 2. The Celtics finished 13 for 50 from beyond the arc, including a 2-for-10 night from Derrick White from distance. White is now 4 for 17 from 3-point range in the series, dropping the price on his 3-point prop heading into Game 3. On the season, White averaged 2.7 makes on 8.3 attempts from outside but that slimmed to two triples on 6.5 3PAs once Jayson Tatum returned. White is getting plenty of open looks from beyond the arc in the playoffs, with 14 of his 17 3-point attempts coming with a defender at least four feet away (Open). However, he’s only made four of those long-range takes. Before the playoffs, White had knocked down at least three triples in three of his final five games of the regular season and Game 3 projections lean toward three 3-pointers Friday.
The playmaking duties are mostly on LeBron's shoulders right now with Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves out. He's cashed the Over in dimes in four of his last six, and he had 13 assists in Game 1 against Houston's inconsistent defense.
With the series swinging to Houston, Durant has extra days to strengthen that knee as well as drink in all the hate from the mainstream media. And when asked about how he should have dealt with the constant double teams from Los Angeles, Durant’s solution was to attack. That was his plan before the playoffs, when he exploded for more than 27 points on 54.4% shooting over his final 13 outings, leading the Rockets to a 10-3 SU mark in those games. He topped 23.5 points in all but two of those showings. The 12 FGAs in Game 2 tied his lowest shot total during that run and if Durant is a man of his word, he’ll get up at least his usual 17 attempts in Game 3. Projections sit as high as 28 points for a guy who’s averaged more than 29 points in the playoffs throughout his career.

Vassell has hit the Over in points in three straight games, and he's one of the players on the Spurs roster who will be relied upon to step up offensively with Wembanyama sidelined.
In 54 games alongside Wembanyama this regular season, Fox averaged 16.5 points. In 18 games with Wembanyama sidelined, Fox averaged 24.6 points. He attempted 4.2 more shots per game without Wembanyama on the court, including two additional 3-pointers per game.
Jalen Suggs is the Magic’s most consistent 3-point threat and has gone 3 for 10 from distance in each of the first two playoff contests. Nineteen of his total 20 shots from downtown have been either “open” or “wide open” with Suggs making good on just five of those attempts. Suggs’ shooting sees a surge at home, with his 3-point success jumping from less than 30% on the road to 37.4% in Orlando.
Game 3 projections aren’t bullish on Suggs’ shooting, pegging him for two 3-point makes. But with Detroit keeping its heels below the arc and Suggs shooting almost double his usual 3PAs, the opportunity is there to hit at least three treys – especially when you consider his shooting splits at home and a game script that has Orlando playing from behind.
In a series featuring physical defense, these 3-point threats get hot and help push the final score past this low total. Robinson and Suggs have each made three triples in the first two games of this Round 1 set.
When the playoffs roll around, Jalen Brunson elevates his scoring to a new level. Since 2023-24, Brunson is one of just four players to average 30+ points per game, and he’s the only one to play in more than six games. With an average of 30.4 points across his last 34 playoff games, Brunson has a proven track record in critical games.
Josh Hart finished with just two points on 1-of-9 shooting in Game 3, and he’s got to be more productive. Improved scoring from New York’s starters is crucial, as the Knicks have lost two straight games by just one point. Hart scored 12+ in 18 of 33 road games in the regular season, and he’s due for a bounce-back performance in a critical Game 4.
Mikal Bridges has scored 21 total points on 8-of-22 shooting through the first three games of this series. That’s dreadful for a guy who was brought in to be the missing piece on a contending team. Bridges logged only 21 minutes in Game 3 in favor of Miles McBride (15 points), and I expect the benching and poor performance to motivate him in Saturday’s high-stakes matchup.
