Isaiah Livers scored 17 points and Michigan remained undefeated by downing Iowa State 83-76 in the quarterfinals of the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament in The Bahamas on Wednesday.
David DeJulius had 14 points and Zavier Simpson supplied 10 points, 13 assists and seven rebounds, although he also committed eight turnovers for the Wolverines (5-0). Jon Teske chipped in 11 points and six rebounds, and Colin Castleton added 10 points.
Tyrese Haliburton carried Iowa State (3-2) with 25 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Prentiss Nixon had 14 points and five assists, Solomon Young contributed 12 points and Rasir Bolton added 10.
Michigan made 10 of 21 shots from behind the arc, including at key times in the second half.
Iowa State jumped to a 16-7 lead before Michigan answered with a 10-0 run, capped by Livers' three-point play.
Haliburton made a 3-pointer with 5:06 left in the half to give Iowa State a one-point lead. The Wolverines then reeled off seven unanswered points, including four points by Simpson, to gain a 39-33 lead. Michigan led 41-37 at the break.
A Teske bucket and a Livers 3-pointer stretched Michigan's advantage to nine in the first two minutes of the second half. Livers and Teske soon followed with 3-pointers to give the Wolverines a 52-39 lead with 16:30 remaining.
Free throws by Eli Brooks with 13:52 left nudged Michigan's lead to 14. Iowa State crept within nine points, but Michigan extended the lead to 15 with 7:59 left on a Castleton layup.
Haliburton hit a 3-pointer and made a layup to cut the Wolverines' advantage to 70-62 with six minutes to go. DeJulius came back with a 3-point shot, and when the Cyclones cut it to eight again with about two minutes left, Livers drained another long ball.
Bolton made two free throws with 40 seconds left to move the Cyclones within six. But Iowa State couldn't get any closer until the final 10 seconds.
