Senior guard Desmond Bane scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as TCU cruised to a 64-47 victory over Wyoming on Tuesday night in the MGM Resorts Main Event consolation game in Las Vegas.
PJ Fuller added 11 points for TCU (5-1), which bounced back from a 62-60 overtime loss to Clemson in Sunday night's semifinals.
Senior guard Jake Hendricks scored 14 points, hitting 4 of 7 3-point attempts, and sophomore guard Hunter Maldonado finished with 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds for the Cowboys (3-5).
Wyoming, held to just 15 first-half points in a 56-41 loss to Colorado in the semifinals, managed just 14 points while falling behind 30-14 at intermission to the Horned Frogs. The Cowboys shot just 5 of 28 (17.9 percent) before the break and committed six turnovers.
Both teams started slowly, missing their first five shots, and a layup by Maldonado cut TCU's lead to 5-4 after five minutes. The Horned Frogs then went on a 13-0 run over the next five minutes with Bane leading the way with five points, including a 3-pointer.
The Horned Frogs, who sank six of their first 10 3-point tries, extended their lead to 28-11 on a rebound basket by Bane to cap a 23-7 run. TCU went into halftime with a 30-14 halftime lead.
TCU went on a 6-0 run early in the second half featuring another 3-pointer by Bane to boost its lead to 40-20 with 17:01 remaining. Wyoming answered with a 7-0 run capped by a steal and 3-pointer by Hendricks to cut the margin to 13, but TCU gradually pulled away after that and led by as many as 24 points after a 3-pointer by Fuller with 5:55 to go.
TCU, which entered the contest ranked 12th nationally with an average of 10.6 3-pointers per game, finished 9 of 26 behind the arc. The Horned Frogs outrebounded Wyoming 38-28 and also finished with a 28-18 edge in points in the paint.
