Buddy Boeheim scored 24 points as host Syracuse snapped a three-game losing streak with a 77-61 victory over Pitt on Tuesday.
Jimmy Boeheim chipped in 18 points for the Orange (8-8, 2-3 ACC), who held the Panthers without a field goal for the first 9:16 of the second half. During that stretch, Syracuse turned a one-point lead into a commanding 17-point advantage.
Pitt (6-10, 1-4) was led by Femi Odukale, Mouhamadou Gueye and Jamarius Burton with 14 points apiece. Gueye also grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.
Jesse Edwards pitched in 12 points for Syracuse, while Cole Swider added 10. Buddy Boeheim shot 5 of 8 from 3-point range, while his teammates combined to go 1 of 9 from long distance.
Buddy Boeheim paced all scorers with 14 first-half points as Syracuse led 35-34 at intermission.
The Orange led 19-11 midway through the period when the Panthers embarked on a 21-6 run to surge ahead by seven points. Odukale scored the final eight points of the run to make it 32-25 in favor of the visitors.
However, Joe Girard III scored four consecutive points to ignite a 10-2 push by the hosts. Jimmy Boeheim's bucket right before the halftime buzzer put Syracuse back in the lead.
The Orange still led by one early in the second half when they went on a 14-1 run. Buddy Boeheim's jumper made it 51-37 with just under 14 minutes remaining and Swider's bucket with 11:07 to play extended the advantage to 58-41.
Pitt's field-goal drought finally ended on Gueye's jumper with 10:44 remaining. The Panthers' next bucket from the field came with 6:52 left in the game. In all, Pitt finished 5 of 21 from the field in the second half and 38.3 percent overall.
The Panthers got as close as 67-54 down the stretch before the Orange knocked down five free throws to restore a comfortable cushion.
