Manny Obaseki scored 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds, both career highs, as Texas A&M defeated visiting Northwestern State 80-61 on Tuesday in College Station, Texas, to remain unbeaten at home.
The Aggies (9-2) led by 11 points at halftime and by as many as 18 early in the second half but struggled to put away Northwestern State. The Demons' 7-0 run brought it to within 61-53 with 8:02 to play. Texas A&M responded by scoring eight of the next 10 points to go back up by 13 points and was never seriously tested again.
Hassan Diarra hit for 12 points for the Aggies, with Tyrese Radford adding 10 points and eight rebounds in the win. Texas A&M has won two straight games and five of its past six contests.
Starting point guard Andre Gordon was held out of the game.
A&M is 6-0 at home and has games in its own building against Dallas Christian and Central Arkansas before opening the SEC season at Georgia on Jan. 4.
Carvell Teasett led the Demons with 15 points while Kendal Coleman added 12 points and 11 rebounds. The Demons (3-10) are now 0-7 in the road. Their 10 losses this season have come by an average of more than 22 points.
The Aggies scored the first five points of the game and never trailed, using a 10-0 run over a four-minute stretch of the middle of the first half to move to a 25-13 lead. Texas A&M was up by 13 points three separate times in the half, the first after a 3-pointer by Obaseki at the 4:55 mark, and led 36-25 at halftime.
Henry Coleman III led the Aggies with seven points in the first half as Texas A&M outshot the Demons 48.4 percent to 34.4 percent. The Aggies forged a 22-15 edge in rebounding and forced 12 Northwestern State turnovers that they converted into 14 points.
Teasett paced the Demons with seven points over the first 20 minutes while Coleman took seven rebounds.
