Rienk Mast had 19 points and Nebraska matched its best start in 31 years with an 85-72 home win over Cal State Fullerton in a nonconference game Sunday afternoon in Lincoln, Neb.
The Cornhuskers (7-0) have their longest win streak since winning 11 in a row in 2010-11 and their best start since beginning the 1992-93 season with seven straight victories.
Mast was 8 of 12 from the field, making all three 3-point attempts, and added nine rebounds. Keisei Tominaga added 17, making all five of his shots.
The Titans (2-4) got a career-high 30 points from Max Jones, who had 19 in the first half. Jones was 10 of 19, including 5 of 7 from 3, while the rest of the Titans shot 37.5 percent and were 4 of 15 from outside.
Up 47-36 at the break, Nebraska opened with back-to-back 3-pointers by Mast and Keisei Tominaga to up the advantage to 17. The lead was 66-50 with 12:03 to go when both teams went into a prolonged scoring drought, with zero field goals over the next four-plus minutes.
The Titans missed eight straight shots before a 3-pointer by Grayson Carper with 6:42 remaining, but by then it was 70-55 Nebraska. A 7-0 run capped by a Jones 3 got the visitors within 78-67 with 2:26 to go before Nebraska's Brice Williams canned a 3 to thwart the comeback.
Nebraska hit six of its first 11 3-pointers, with a triple from Jamarques Lawrence giving it a 29-18 lead with 10:10 left in the first half. Fullerton twice got within four before halftime, including 34-30 with 6:04 remaining, but Nebraska built the margin to 13 with 1:45 to go on back-to-back Mast baskets.
Fullerton will host North Dakota on Friday while Nebraska hosts No. 8 Creighton next Sunday.
