West Virginia won its first seven games before falling at St. John's on Saturday and will look to bounce back when it hosts Austin Peay on Thursday. The Mountaineers have four non-conference games remaining - including a date with No. 2 Ohio State - before diving into Big 12 play.

West Virginia committed 22 turnovers and 22 personal fouls in Saturday's setback and complacency was part of the issue. "We got a little giddy with being 7-0," Mountaineers coach Bob Huggins told reporters. "We didn't take things as serious as we had taken things. We've got good kids, but I know this, we're going to get five balls that don't bounce because we've got to learn how to play without dribbling the ball so much." West Virginia got around to buckling down and held the Red Storm without a field goal over the final 4 1/2 minutes to erase a nine-point gap but lost on a pair of free throws in the final seconds. The Governors are taking on their third major-conference opponent and looking for their first win after falling at SEC foes Vanderbilt and Arkansas.

ABOUT AUSTIN PEAY (4-4): The Governors gave Arkansas all it could handle in a 69-61 setback and bounced back in impressive fashion by racing past North Florida 90-83 on Saturday. "I challenged guys after Arkansas," Austin Peay coach Matt Figger told reporters after his team shot 54.2 percent from the floor and only turned the ball over seven times against the Osprey. "I thought our want-to, our will and our fight was really good at Arkansas, but when you go on the road at an SEC team and turn it over 21 times, you've got no chance to win. This was more in-character of how we should play." Junior guard Terry Taylor leads the Governors in scoring at an average of 22.5 points and scored at least 20 in each of the last three contests.

ABOUT WEST VIRGINIA (7-1): The Mountaineers are limiting opponents to 63.9 points on 36.4 percent shooting but occasionally run into their own trouble on offense. Freshman guard Miles McBride went 1-of-10 from the floor in Saturday's loss - 0-of-3 from beyond the arc - and is shooting 34 percent from the floor as he adjusts to the college game. Forward Oscar Tshiebwe leads the team in scoring at an average of 11.8 points on 56.5 percent shooting and guard Jermaine Haley puts up 11.5 on 66 percent from the floor, but no one else is shooting 46 percent or better.

TIP-INS

1. West Virginia sophomore F Derek Culver grabbed a season-high 18 rebounds Saturday in his second straight double-double.

2. The Governors are shooting 40.2 percent from the floor in their four losses and 53.5 percent in the four wins.

3. Tshiebwe leads the Mountaineers with an average of 2.5 turnovers.

PREDICTION: West Virginia 73, Austin Peay 61
