Texas Christian @ Kansas preview

Allen Fieldhouse

Last Meeting ( Feb 8, 2020 ) Kansas 60, Texas Christian 46

Udoka Azubuike came up big for No. 1 Kansas in the previous two wins, but when he was limited by an ankle injury, Devon Dotson stepped forward Saturday in a 62-58 win at Kansas State. With Azubuike's status uncertain, Dotson may need another big game when TCU, fresh off knocking off then-No. 2 Baylor, visits Allen Fieldhouse on Wednesday as the Jayhawks try to clinch at least a share of the Big 12 regular-season title.

Dotson was the lone Jayhawk in double figures against the Wildcats, scoring 25 points, as Azubuike was limited to six points and nine rebounds in 20 minutes after combining for 42 points and 35 rebounds in the previous two games. Kansas trailed by as many as four points in the second half but held the Wildcats to just two field goals over the final eight minutes to hold on for the win.“(Azubuike) came back and played, although he wasn’t effective. The way he laid on the ground initially, you would have thought that amputation was a viable course of action," Kansas coach Bill Self said jokingly. "Dot gets 25 (points) on his own part (today) ... I thought that was huge, what he did, because we really didn’t have much going on at all except for him." Desmond Bane scored 23 points and freshman PJ Fuller added a career-best 21 as the Horned Frogs topped Baylor on Saturday - a loss that put the Bears a game behind Kansas in the conference standings with two to play.

ABOUT TCU (16-13, 7-9 Big 12): Playing without guards RJ Nembhard (12.2 points, groin) and Francisco Farabello (head) for the second consecutive game, Bane (16.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.8 assists) scored 19 points in the second half and finished 5-of-8 from 3-point range. Bane, who was 5-for-5 from the arc after halftime, moved past Ryan Carroll (1998-01) into second place on the TCU all-time 3s made leaderboard with 235. Fuller (5.8 points) shot 7-of-12 from the field, Jaire Grayer (7.4 points, 4.5 rebounds) scored 13 points and tied his season high with a team-leading nine rebounds and Kevin Samuel (10.2 points, 8.6 rebounds, 2.8 blocks) blocked two shots, giving him multiple blocks in seven straight and 12 of his last 13 games.

ABOUT KANSAS (26-3, 15-1): Dotson, who scored 20-plus points for the ninth time this season and for the 11th time in his career, shot 8-of-11 from the field and 8-of-8 from the line against Kansas State. The junior was named one of five finalists for the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award on Monday, and the sophomore leads the Big 12 in scoring (18.2), is second in steals (2.1), third in field-goal percentage (47.2) and sixth in assists (4.0). Dotson had 18 points, 11 assists, six rebounds and three steals in an earlier win against TCU this season.

BUZZER BEATERS

3. TCU scored 54 points in the second half on 76.2 percent shooting against Baylor. It was the highest scoring output in a half by the Frogs since they scored 56 in the second half in a win at Iowa State on Feb. 9, 2019.
