Bills 29, Dolphins 10: EJ Manuel passed for 202 yards and a touchdown while rookie Sammy Watkins collected 117 yards receiving and a score as Buffalo knocked off visiting Miami.
C.J. Spiller ran for 69 yards and returned a kickoff 102 yards for a TD for the Bills (2-0). Manuel went 16-of-26 and Dan Carpenter knocked through five field goals as Buffalo remained undefeated.
Ryan Tannehill went 31-of-49 for 241 yards and a touchdown for Miami (1-1), which lost running back Knowshon Moreno to an elbow injury in the first quarter. Mike Wallace caught five passes for 56 yards and a TD while Lamar Miller rushed for 46 yards.
The Bills held the Dolphins to 62 total yards in the first half and got three field goals from Carpenter to take a 9-0 lead into the break. Miami settled for a 34-yard field goal to cap a 13-play drive to start the third quarter, but Spiller grabbed the ensuing kickoff two yards deep in the end zone and broke out for the first TD of the contest to put Buffalo in front 16-3.
Wallace’s one-handed TD catch on the left side of the end zone with 3:15 left in the third brought the Dolphins within 16-10, but Manuel responded on the ensuing drive by finding Watkins for a 12-yard score. Carpenter converted a pair of kicks in the fourth quarter, including a 38-yarder with 1:54 remaining to put it away.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Moreno’s elbow appeared to bend the wrong way when he was tackled in the first quarter and he did not return. … The Dolphins and Bills were meeting with both teams holding a winning record for the first time since Dec. 3, 2000. … Buffalo DT Kyle Williams picked up his 30th career sack, one of four recorded by the Bills.
