Dolphins 17, Rams 14: Ryan Tannehill threw a pair of touchdown passes and rookie St. Louis kicker Greg Zuerlein missed a 66-yard field goal try as time expired as Miami defeated the visiting Rams for the fifth straight time.
Tannehilll threw a 29-yard scoring pass to an uncovered
Marlon Moore as the Dolphins (3-3) scored 17 straight points to win their second
straight game. The rookie also threw a 1-yard touchdown pass to tight end
Anthony Fasano.
St. Louis had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds, but Zuerlein's kick missed to the left despite being long enough.
The Rams (3-3) took a 6-0 lead on a pair of field goals, but Zuerlein then missed consecutive field goal attempts - the first misses of
his pro career - and Miami led 10-6 at the break despite being outgained by the
Rams 294-99.
Sam Bradford scored on a dive from a yard out and then
converted the two-point play on a pass to Steven Jackson to cut the deficit to
17-14 with 8:30 to play. St. Louis got the ball back but Bradford was sacked
with under a minute to play by Olivier Vernon, adding several yards to Zuerlein’s
game-tying attempt in the final seconds.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Tannehill was 21-for-29 for 185 yards.
Bradford was 26-for-39 for 315 yards. …Zeurlein converted the first 15 field
goal attempts of his career, a St. Louis rookie record. The streak was snapped
when he missed a 52-yarder in the second quarter. He then missed again right
before halftime. … Dolphins RB Daniel Thomas missed the game with a concussion.
…The Rams gained 162 yards on the ground. Miami entered the game ranked No. 1
in the NFL in rushing defense.
