Matt Moore and David Gettis hooked up for a pair of touchdown passes and John Kasay kicked a game-winning 37-yard field goal with 39 seconds remaining to lift the Carolina Panthers to their first win of the season with a 23-20 triumph over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.
Making his first start since Week 2, Moore was solid until Ray McDonald intercepted him and returned it 31 yards for a go-ahead score early in the fourth quarter. The touchdown gave the 49ers (1-6) a 20-13 lead.
Moore bounced back later in the quarter to hit Gettis for the tying touchdown - a 23-yard strike that tied the game with less than 2 minutes left. The quarterback then led the Panthers (1-5) down the field to set up Kasay's winning kick.
Moore threw for 308 yards on 28 of 41 passing with two touchdowns and an interception. Gettis caught eight passes for 125 yards and two scores, and Brandon LaFell added six receptions for 91 yards.
Frank Gore rushed for 102 yards on 19 carries for the 49ers.
San Francisco quarterback Alex Smith left the game with a sprained left shoulder. Smith completed 9 of 19 passes for 129 yards and a touchdown, a 1-yard toss to tight end Vernon Davis, who caught four passes for 74 yards.
In relief of Smith, David Carr completed 4 of 12 passes for 48 yards with one interception.
