Browns 7, Chargers 6: Rookie Trent Richardson scored a touchdown and recorded his first 100-yard game as host Cleveland survived rainy conditions to snap a four-game losing streak to San Diego.
Richardson finished with 122 yards, including a 26-yard score on the Browns' first drive. Rookie quarterback Brandon Weeden was 11-of-27 for 129 yards for Cleveland (2-6), which has won two of its last three games.
Ryan Mathews rushed for 95 yards for the Chargers (3-4), who have lost three straight and haven't scored a touchdown in six quarters. San Diego began its final possession at its 12-yard line with 2:36 to go, but turned it over on downs on the Cleveland 44 with 1:20 remaining after four straight incompletions.
Cleveland took a 7-0 lead on its opening possession when Richardson's score capped a 12-play, 70-yard drive. San Diego, which registered only 80 yards in its first five possessions, went 55 yards on 10 plays on its sixth to make it 7-3 at the half on Nick Novak's 43-yard field goal with three seconds left.
The Chargers closed to 7-6 when Novak slid a 31-yard inside the right upright with 2:36 remaining in the third quarter. Philip Rivers was 18-of-34 for 154 yards for San Diego.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Browns DL Emmanual Stevens left the game in the first half after suffering a neck injury and did not return. ...
