Chiefs 34, Rams 7: Jamaal Charles found the end zone twice and Knile Davis returned a kickoff for touchdown among his two scores as host Kansas City defeated St. Louis for the sixth consecutive time.
Charles rushed for 73 yards and Alex Smith was an efficient 24-of-28 for 226 yards as the Chiefs (4-3) won for the fourth time in five games. Justin Houston had three sacks to raise his season count to 10 as Kansas City recorded seven overall and limited the Rams to 200 total yards.
Austin Davis was 15-of-25 for 160 yards and one touchdown and also was intercepted once. Tight end Lance Kendricks caught a touchdown pass for the Rams (2-5).
The Chiefs led 10-7 at halftime before Knile Davis broke loose for a 99-yard return on the opening kickoff to change the complexion of the contest. Cairo Santos kicked a 28-yard field goal six minutes later and Charles darted 36 yards for a score 12 seconds into the final quarter to make it 27-7 before Knile Davis capped the scoring with a 3-yard run.
Austin Davis connected with Kendricks on a 1-yard score 3:04 into the game. Charles tied the contest with a 1-yard run with 12 minutes left in the first half and Santos kicked a 53-yard field goal with one second left before halftime to give the Chiefs a three-point edge.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Kansas City has won the last six meetings by an average of 20.3 points. … Rams DE Robert Quinn had two sacks and has three over the last two games. … The kickoff return for a touchdown was the second of Davis’ career.
