ST. LOUIS - Two short passes led to two big gains and the start of a big win for the Chicago Bears.
Tight end Zach Miller and running back Jeremy Langford turned Jay Cutler throws into 87 and 83-yard touchdowns, respectively, in the first half as Chicago dumped the St. Louis Rams 37-13 on Sunday at Edward Jones Dome.
Miller's catch-and-run, the result of a failed tackle by linebacker Akeem Ayers, tied the game at 7 with 11:10 left in the first quarter. It answered a 6-yard scoring run on the game's first possession by St. Louis' Todd Gurley.
Taking advantage of two nice blocks down field, Langford turned a screen pass into his long touchdown to give the Bears (4-5) a 24-10 lead with five minutes remaining in the first half.
On the strength of those two plays, Cutler hit 19-of-24 passes for 258 yards and three scores, finishing with a quarterback rating of 151.0.
Cutler's other touchdown pass was a 2-yarder to Miller with 6:56 left in the second quarter, Miller's third scoring reception in seven days. Miller's touchdown catch in the fourth quarter won Monday night's game in San Diego.
Kicker Robbie Gould added field goals of 35, 37 and 36 yards for Chicago. Langford, who rushed for 73 yards and caught seven passes for 109 yards, finished the scoring with a 6-yard scoring run at the 4:55 mark of the fourth quarter.
St. Louis (4-5) produced its only points after its first drive came on 26 and 38-yard field goals by Greg Zuerlein. The Rams managed just 285 total yards and 12 first downs.
Quarterback Nick Foles struggled after throwing for 60 yards on the opening drive, finishing 17-of-36 for 200 yards and tossing an interception before backup Case Keenum relieved him with 2:23 left in the game. Gurley was limited to 45 yards on 12 rushes.
Wide receiver Wes Welker caught three passes for 32 yards in his first game of the season. The 11-year veteran was picked up by the Rams on Monday.
NOTES: St. Louis coach Jeff Fisher was denied his 172nd win for the second time, leaving him in a tie with Joe Gibbs for 14th in NFL history. ... Chicago QB Jay Cutler passed Jon Kitna for 43rd place on the league's all-time passing yardage list in the first half. ... Rams RT Rob Havenstein (calf) left the game in the fourth quarter and didn't return.
