49ers 27, Redskins 6: Colin Kaepernick passed for 235 yards and three touchdowns and visiting San Francisco turned in a dominant defensive performance to rout Washington.
Anquan Boldin caught five passes for 94 yards and two touchdowns and Vernon Davis added four catches for 70 yards and a score for the 49ers (7-4), who snapped a two-game skid and pulled even with Arizona for the second NFC wild card. Ahmad Brooks and Aldon Smith each had two sacks and Donte Whitner had an interception as San Francisco held Washington to 190 total yards.
Robert Griffin III continued his sophomore struggles, going 17-of-27 for 127 yards with an interception. The Redskins (3-8) never got their strong ground game going, averaging just 3.7 yards on 27 attempts.
Kaepernick hit Boldin for a 19-yard touchdown pass to open the scoring and Phil Dawson's 29-yard field goal made it 10-0 San Francisco. Kai Forbath hit from 36 and 35 yards to get Washington within 10-6 at halftime, but the Redskins' offense stalled after the break.
The 49ers drove 60 yards in six plays on their second possession of the second half with Kaepernick hitting Boldin for a 6-yard score. LaMichael James' 40-yard punt return gave the 49ers a short field late in the third quarter, and Kaepernick's 1-yard TD pass to Davis extended the lead to 24-6.
