Jets 17, Jaguars 10: Bilal Powell and Shonn Greene scored rushing touchdowns and New York overcame a modest performance from embattled quarterback Mark Sanchez on the way to a win at Jacksonville.
New York (6-7) erased a 3-0 halftime deficit by running all over the Jaguars in the second half for its second straight win. Powell scored on a 4-yard run, Greene punched it in from a yard out and the duo combined for 155 yards on the ground as the Jets kept their fleeting playoff hopes alive.
Sanchez, who was benched last week after throwing three interceptions, got the start and threw for 111 yards on 12-for-19 passing in a complementary role. Sanchez did complete a big third down pass to tight end Jeff Cumberland for 37 yards late in the fourth quarter.
Chad Henne was 21-of-43 for 185 yards and two interceptions for the Jaguars (2-11), who have just one win in their last 10 games. Henne was intercepted to end Jacksonville's final drive in Jets' territory with 15 seconds left.
Greene gave New York a 7-3 lead early in the second half, barreling in from the 1-yard line for his first touchdown in six games. The Jets made it 10-3 on a 44-yard field goal by Nick Folk later in the third quarter and Powell extended the advantage to 17-3 with his scoring run early in the fourth quarter.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Montell Owens started at running back for the injury-ravaged
Jaguars and scored on a 32-yard run in the fourth quarter to cut the
deficit to 17-10. It was the first touchdown the Jets had allowed in the
last 25 drives on defense. ... Jets QB Tim Tebow was active for the game and served as Sanchez's backup. Greg McElroy, who led the Jets to a win last week, was inactive. ... Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts (concussion) missed the game. RBs Maurice Jones-Drew and Rashard Jennings were also inactive.
