Miami @ Green Bay preview

Lambeau Field

Last Meeting ( Oct 12, 2014 ) Green Bay 27, Miami 24

The Green Bay Packers find themselves under .500 despite having two-time NFL Most Valuable Player Aaron Rodgers at the controls while the Miami Dolphins are over .500 with Brock Osweiler scheduled to make his fifth start in place of Ryan Tannehill. The Packers aim to rebound from losses to a pair of the NFL's upper-echelon teams on Sunday when they host the Dolphins at Lambeau Field, where they own a 3-0-1 mark this season.

Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy wasn't interested in any running the table talk that came to fruition for his team in 2016, instead focusing on moving past recent setbacks to the Los Angeles Rams and New England and turning his attention to Sunday's game. "We're focused on winning No. 4. That's all we're talking about right now," McCarthy said. "We improved as a football team the last two weeks, but you have to play your best football coming down the stretch, and that's clearly been evident the last two weeks." Miami improved to 2-2 with Osweiler under center, although the 27-year-old was held out of the end zone for the second straight week and threw for just 139 yards in Sunday's 13-6 win over the New York Jets. The ageless Frank Gore has assumed a larger portion of the pie in the backfield, with Kenyan Drake receiving six or fewer carries in five of nine games this season.

ABOUT THE DOLPHINS (5-4): Miami opportunistic defense recorded four of its NFL-best 15 interceptions last week against the Jets, although the club faces a quarterback on Sunday that has been picked off just once this season. Rookie linebacker Jerome Baker intercepted rookie Sam Darnold and scampered 25 yards for the lone touchdown last week for the Dolphins, who also collected four sacks and limited the Jets to 2-for-15 on third and fourth down. Reshad Jones caused a stir by pulling himself from that game, although coach Adam Gase said that the Pro Bowl safety will be in the lineup Sunday. "All of that stuff, that's between all of those guys, and they're going to keep that in house," Gase said. "I don't think you're going to get anybody talking about that. We handled what we needed to handle, and we're moving on."

ABOUT THE PACKERS (3-4-1): Rodgers has found a trusted target in Davante Adams, who leads the team in receptions (58), targets (87), receiving yards (730) and touchdowns (seven) - all by considerable margins. The 25-year-old Adams has even picked up the pace in his last four games, recording 30 catches for 445 yards with four scores. While there tends to be little issue with the Rodgers-led passing game, the Packers would be wise to lean on Aaron Jones (NFL-best 6.03 yards per carry) against Miami's 28th-ranked rushing defense (136.1 yards per game). Green Bay seemingly moved on from the running back-by-committee approach by sending Ty Montgomery to Baltimore, and the 23-year-old Jones paced the team with 76 rushing yards in Sunday's 31-17 setback to the Patriots.

EXTRA POINTS

1. Miami WR Danny Amendola has 24 of his team-leading 40 receptions over the last four weeks.

2. Green Bay's Marquez Valdes-Scantling is in line for more snaps after the team placed fellow WR Geronimo Allison (groin) on injured reserve this week.

3. Dolphins P Matt Haack was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week after placing seven of his league-best 26 punts inside the 20-yard line against the Jets.

PREDICTION: Packers 34, Dolphins 14
